Hey guys, I got jumped around a month ago, and my dvx100b setup got stolen.

I ordered my first one through BandH Photo/Video, and would love to do so again.

But since then they stopped stocking them regularly and it could take about a month for the camera to arrive after I place an order. As much as I'd love to go through them again, I dont think I want the wait.

So I've been looking into this dealer that sells throuhg amazon. Big Value Inc. I just wanted to know if you guys have any thoughts on them. I checked reseller ratings and they only had two reveiws, which sketched me out.

Do you guys have any legit websites to go through?

Never dealt with them or heard of them, but the price seems a little high considering you can get a used one with low hours for probably a grand less. If you're bent on going with a new unit, I'd shop around a little more and do the research on the seller before buying -- I got ripped off on mine when we purchased ours back in 2005. It wasn't until after we ordered it that we saw that the company selling them was a complete scam, and all the items in the "package" they were selling was crap (no other way of describing it). If you're okay with a used unit, check out the marketplace section and post what you're looking for -- it seems like a lot of folks here are selling right now.
 
Never buy anything from a Brooklyn based dealer! I had a nightmare with $h0pSunsh1ne.com . Using code name version because these freaks monitor their name like crazy.

Yeah I've heard a lot of bad things about the old bait and switch sellers. Luckily before I bought into there prices.

I've had incredibly bad luck with any used cameras I've bought, I bought a Sony Vx2000 and it ended up being PAL formatted, which contrary to what my username implies, I live in the states, and then bought a Vx1000 off eBay and the seller decided not to tell me he had shorted the main circuit board by spilling a soda on it.

So I'm pretty bent on a new camera. I sent an email to Speccom, so hopefully I hear back soon.

p.s.. I wasn't seriously hurt in the robbery, I just took a punch to the head, my friend got pistol whipped though. In the end they made off with 200 dollars, my car keys, and my Dvx100b/Mk2 fisheye setup. At least I got my spare keys before they came back for the car.

I'm about to start carrying bear mace or something, possibly a knife.

The only thing is I shoot a lot of skateboarding, so if a cop decides to take a look through my bag when he is kicking us out or even arresting us. Hello possible jail-time for possession of a deadly weapon.

I just wish I hadn't been sitting down and getting hit from the back. Otherwise I may have been able to put of a fight.

But he did have a gun...

Why would you let a cop look through your bag?
 
We'll most cops usually don't have the greatest attitude towards skateboarders.

A perfect example is this time we were skating a rail behind a school, a cop came to kick us out. He ended up sitting us down, taking all of our information, and telling us we were all being charged with...

Vandalism- not only to the paint on the rail, but to the concrete around it, concrete that had been cracked and chipped due to the years its been sitting outside through Indiana's crazy weather.

Attempt to break and enter- because the rail, was in the back of the school by the door.

And then told us we were trying to hide from him because we were skating in the back of the school. Although there was nothing to skate in the front of the school.

In the end we didn't get arrested, but were told if any of us stepped foot on the townships school grounds again we would be arrested on the spot.

So if a cop asked to see me bag, I wouldn't really be in the position to tell him no. Seeing as I was doing something deemed illegal.

It's sort of the same as if you got pulled over, and the police were suspicious you have a drugs in your car, declining a search doesn't look to good on your part.

I duno...however as i mentioned they are one of the site sponsers (and all sponser of the site are totally legit), and i bought mine there and other stuff. You can do a search of the forum and see that many users here use there services and have only good things to say.

you have every right to say no in that situation. Suspicion isn't enough for him to search your car. He has to have reasonable cause to believe that there are drugs in the car and saying no to his warrantless search does not give him he right to search your belongings.

What your rights are on paper and what they are in reality are two completely different things. Say no to a search and they'll find a reason that will convince a judge that it was justified.

If you're in a position to be harassed by the police, don't carry anything that will get you in more trouble. Carry some mace or something of the sort, and if the cops do search you tell them about it before it they find it, and explain why you carry it.

Or learn how swing a tripod like a samurai sword.
