Big Problem With My White Balance

When shooting under fluro's sometimes having the shutter on can make your colour temp go crazy, It's happened to me... Turn off the shutter and try!

Whenever I shoot flourescent lights I can see the color temp in the light slowly swinging back and forth between red and blue. It's probably completely normal. what do you expect from a five-dollar light? If you want stability in a light source go pro... use a kino or something.
The problem is that when the engineers created those inexpensive lights. Your camera is fine.

lwhy whould I want to turn off teh shutter

Fluorescent lights pulsate brighter-dimmer-brighter-dimmer and cyclically shift color, along with the 60Hz power/ballast that fires them. Using certain shutter settings basically creates a strobey flashy pulsey effect as you catch the lights at different points in their discharge cycle.

If you do a search regarding changing colour temp you'll find the article i found and fix the prob!

edit - I assume u can turn off the shutter on the DVX like the HVX right?

Casey,

Well, that is why sodium vapour and cheap flos are not used in filmmaking. They do not produce light that is reliable and stable in spectrum and intensity.

The best you can do is use a preset or manual locked in white balance, and make sure your shutter speed is the same as the power frequency. Set the shutter to 1/60th in North America. You may even have to shoot at 30p or 60i for it to look right.

thats what I thought.
Thanks for clearing that up though.
And I am using those 500w Flourecents that are 5600k, they match right up to
the preset WB and look so good cept for teh slight shift, I would hate to have to put the m in a closet
