GH2 big GH2 bug with face detection in movie mode

I would like to know if i am the only one to have this bug: when i set the GH2 in manual movie mode/face detection/AFC or AFS, the real time counter slowdown and i eventually get an "SD card to slow for image recording" message, before tthe camera stop recording. Just like if the camera CPU is struggling too hard. This have been tested with different class 6 SD cards. The same settings/card with my GH1 do not cause any trouble. Anybody experienced that?

Is your camera hacked? If so, does it happen with the stock firmware too? Rule that out, but if it still shuts down, there's probably something wrong with the camera.

Try a faster card maybe. I've never had the problem even with my camera hacked. I use Class 10 cards though.

Save all those class 6 cards for patches. As you move on to higher quality and higher bitrates you need the fastest cards you can get. If you want more help, please give more details about your settings; film mode, Contrast, NR, etc. Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, all these settings may have something to do with the behavior you are getting... Al

It happens to me when i use the class 6 on 720/60 but not when im in 24p. use class 10 and in my part never experienced it with hhigher class of cards

Yes, exactly. I checked again yesterday and it happens only in 720 60 p. But that's the mode I use the most, saddly... And I think it's really a GH2 firmware bug, cause i never had it with the GH1.

Not a bug... Please read messages again. The camera is even telling you what the issue is:

Use a faster SDHC card!

By a Sandisk Extreme class 10 card

I don't agree that the card is the issue.

I don't agree that the card is the issue.

The amount of information being written to the card does not change based on the focusing mode.
I tend to agree with the OP that the CPU is struggling to keep up.
The message about the card being too slow comes up when the image buffer is overflowing as the card is not keeping up.
In this case the buffer is under-loaded, as the CPU is not keeping up with feeding frames to the buffer.
Somehow the card writing function treats this condition the same way, generating the error.
Looks like a bug to me.

Well, it seems that the camera fools itself! I tried a Panasonic Gold class 10 and there's no difference. The camera still hang and warn me that memory writing is too slow. CLearly a software or hardware bug. One more time, the problem occurs only in 720P or 1080i AVCHD with face detection focus mode (auto or manual). No such problem in others video/focus modes settings... So, it cannot be a card writing issue at all (cause the problem should be even worst in 24P 23 Mbpsor Motion jpeg modes, wich is not the case -everything is fine there-).

What i want to know is if somebody else could replicate the very same problem on a GH2 cause it really looks to me like a software bug.

GH2 body firmware 1.0, 14-140 lens firmware 1.2, Patriot Class 10 32gig SDHC card, 720p - face detect AF mode, kept up with me for 1 min as I bobbed and weaved. No errors.

Thanks Kin Lau. BTW, i forgot to mention that the time counter do not refresh normally when the bug occurs, so it is really easy to identify. Ex.: it shows 1s, then four seconds later, 5s, and so on...

I have never encountered that message with the stock firmware, and I use face detection with video all the time

Able to replicate

Able to replicate

I can replicate this. It happened last night, actually. I was testing out face detection in the photo mode (RAW and black+white) and decided to hit the record button to see what would happen. Note, I was not in video mode on the dial when this happened.

When I'm in video mode, it records to the card just fine.

I am using a class 6 card which never encountered this error before. My class 10 cards come in the mail today and I'll test it with that. As well, I'll test it out when shooting in JPG photo mode.

I haven't hd any problems there, but I have noticed, i cant access the 720 60p mode while I have a 7" monitor plugged into the HDMI port. As soon as I unplug it, im able to access the setting with no problem. Is there a way around this? Even if I set it 720 60p while the monitor is unplugged it defaults back to 1080 24p when I plug it in. frustrating!!

It has never failed on my end either, no matter which mode. Even under extreme conditions.

Again,
not a bug.

Sounds like your camera has an issue.
You're the only one I've heard of having this issue.

Please state precisely what you are doing and I will be glad to try to reproduce it. I need to know your lens, and precise details of what you do when this "bug" happens. State your settings in minute detail: what are your film settings, all other setting options, Contrast, NR, etc. What are all your dials set to. Finally what do you do and what happens at what time. Are you hacking the camera? Nobody will be able to replicate it without these details.

Also note that Sandisk Extreme Pro 45MB/s Class 10 SDHC cards have been reported by many (especially using the hack) do not work well with the GH2.

Stick with Sandisk Extreme 30MB/s SDHC cards.
