For your video business would you rather be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond?

It's hard to say. I think there are advantages of each. When I'm making short films, I love being in L.A., because whatever is made anywhere else in the nation is largely amateur work. It's very rare to see true professionalism in work outside of NY or LA. Because there simply isn't the talent. But when it comes to running a film production company and doing corporate work, training videos, virtual tours, etc., I think I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond. It would be easier to have less competition, rather than so many cheap competitors here in L.A. that do lousy work but they are cheap.

I know you say some outrageous things on this board, but that tops the list, man! I'll concede that for non-union crews and rate structures, yeah it's pretty slim pickings outside of NY and LA. BUT, for commercials, there is top notch crew everywhere in the world. You just have to have the money to feed them. We're not cheap!

In the name of paying bills, big fish. As the only bread winner of a family of five, I can't afford to be a minnow.

currently a small fish in a massive pond. being a boutique let's us pick and choose the projects we work on and being in a big pond (major studio system) means there is a lot of money in the projects we do choose.

This is interesting.

I selected tiny fish in big ocean. If there was another option such as "Plankton in Pacific Ocean," I might have selected that instead.
