FS7: Beyond FM 3.0. What to add, what bugs should be fixed?

Ok, so now when 3.0 is out it's time to think beyond that. What bugs still should be fixed in FS7? What features would you like to see?

Feature wise I'd love to see (not sure if it's technically possible):
- raw straight from the FS7 body, just like it will be on FS5
- some sort of internal proxy recording (even 720p)
- recording indicator present on the display set to clean

Edit: (added by you)

- Log RAW option
- Centre crop able to be put on an assignable button
- Click White Balance in CineEI
-
User LUT's displaying the name of the LUT not just # 1,2,3 or 4. Also for more than 4 choices.

If there was a Log RAW option I could be persuaded to buy the extension unit.

Centre crop able to be put on an assignable button. ATM it might be quicker to ALL FILE a preset as the boot speed is so much better.

Click White Balance in CineEI. I doubt this is possible as it's not in the FS5 when using the latest colour science.

Raw straight from the FS7 should be possible. If Juan Martinez didn't made any error, FS7 can output 16bit raw signal. But can it through SDI?

Theres a False Color LUT that can be done with LutCalc.. but yes proper false colour in camera would be great!

Sgamut3.cine in custom mode ? :) haha

+1(million) This would really change things as far as the sort of obs doc shooting which is my bread and butter. I disagree about the ALL FILE workaround though. Quickest solution I've found so far is to add "Base Settings" to my user menu, with only the "Crop Mode" sub-menu included. This way it's only 5 button presses from the handgrip to move in and out of crop mode.

The obvious addition to making the function assignable would be to remove the confirmation dialogue as well.

In fact, for that matter, why aren't ALL the menu functions user-assignable?

Overall I am happy after updating that the camera is a lot faster to use which is good but rec tally in clean view finder mode is a must, I couldn't believe it when it I first powered up the fs7 and it wasn't there. I was disappointed that centre crop wasn't button assignable for fast switching, I had hoped to use that feature with a short wide angle zoom to quickly extend the lenses reach. It's still a great feature though and opens this camera up to a lot of great super 16 lenses for doco work. I don't think ver 3 is the end of the line either.

If I'm shooting Slog3 with a VF LUT when I switch to S&Q I'll lose the LUT and be left with SLog3 on the VF. The Zebra settings will still be set for the VF LUT levels so I'd need to dig into the menus and change them. For this reason I have got a couple of ALL Files so when I switch mode or use a different VF LUT things like Zebra levels change too.

I've been sorting out my USER Menu and now it is more pleasant to use a lot more can be achieved without resorting to All Files.

User button; toggle LUT on/off

It would be nice if the WFM could reflect the underlying Slog and not just the mLUT, this is a great feature on my Odyssey.

S&Q button to enable changes to frame rate etc and not just switch on/off.

I have a few more...

Would love False Color. Or at least the option to toggle an enlarged Waveform overlay.

LUT display in S&Q too.

Mine has gaff tape on it.

A killer feature to me would be these:

1. Direkt access to the S&Q settings by pressing the S&Q button for two seconds and the S&Q menu would appear.
2. Add the ability to set up the camera so that it records in 4k in normal speed and when S&Q is pushed allow for the recording resolution to automatically drop to 1080p and HFR (72-180) if set to that.

These two things were already on the F3 in that it dropped to 720p when S&Q was pressed.

.. recording resolution to automatically drop to 1080p

Some people would want a warning before loss of resolution.

It would take some (design) thought but the S+Q should maybe offer 3 memories..

One could then add 50p4k, 1p4k and 150/HD_crop_mode or whatever you set in the memories.

The amount of time Ive spent with the director going 'bash off a little slomo' or 'bash off a timelapse'.

The 4k,25, 1080_hd 150 is currently a huge menu dig!

Overall sony probably need to develop with some actual operators!

Lose the PAL/NTSC selector and have every framerate available in one menu. It's 2016. We don't even use PAL/NTSC anymore.
LUT button
WFM to measure what is being recorded not monitored.

User button; toggle LUT on/off

This is my big one other then keeping the rec-tally only on screen I hit the display button. Or let us program 3 different customized set of VF info.

If I can just trigger VF only lut on/off I'm fine with wfm representing whats on screen because its an easy button push to see whats underneath the lut.

1. A 48fps record format. I shoot a lot of action sports. 48fps provides slow mo but also goes cleanly into 24 by removing every other frame if I want to use real speed. If I want slow motion, but also the option for audio, I have to use 60p. If I want to use that 60p clip at 24 in real time it doesn't look as clean because of the uneven conversion.
Alternative...audio recording during S+q (this would be obviously preferred).

2. S+Q button cycles through common frame rates. It would be great if I could set up the button to cycle through personal commonly used rates. 48, 96, 180. I.e. this way when I go from 48fps in one shot and then the next shot I decide I want to go to 180fps I do not need to also change the record format. Generally I'm going to be at a 24fps record format. Changing from 4k to 1080p 24fps seems like an unnessacary step. Changing the frame rate to 180 we know we are limited to 1080, no need to change that in the menu, should just do it automatically.

3. Monitor LUTS during s+q.
Waveform with monitor LUTS. These two are mostly fixed. Would be nice to have full compatibility as other people have alluded to.

4. Cache record in S+Q. This seems to be the predominant time people would want to use cache record. I'm trying to capture a super quick, unreapeatable event. Sounds like a recipe for slow mo. Was trying to shoot salmon jumping and with no cache I just burned through cards and will make the editors life a pain in the ******.

Had the camera for a year. This list used to be 6 items long. Nice to see 2 off the list. Would be great to have all this stuff. Still loving the images.

Yes, I too would love onion skinning, the ability to look at a thumbnail off the card and superimpose the live camera image over it at a 50 - 50 percent transparency.

With all of the one man band type shooting producers expect today, I'd really really love Face Detection for focus. It was available on the FS700, why not the FS7?
I hear comments that "face detection is not for professionals" however I've been shooting for 30 years and could really use the feature, (especially if they want to sell more auto-focus lenses.
(Seems the least they could do what with all of the buzz lately about the C300 MKII's super advanced auto focus capabilities).
