Better right hand handle needed

Does anyone have issues with the right hand grip? Im coming form an xdcam pmw ex1 and that handle rotates which really helps with low angle shooting. I tend to " football " the cam, holding ut waist length for doc shooting - this keeps the camera discrete, and the subject tends to forget about it and it allows me to maintain eye contact with my subject.. The handle on th 100 is fixed and useless for low angle hand holding. I know it can be removed easilliy - so has any come up with a rotating handle a la sony ex1 ?

I do, & hope for a solution soon.

Olof is working on some sort of wood handle, I believe with a wired Start/Stop function. Also lightweight rods. I think the rods, & handle, are independent of each other, or at least hope so.

His shoulder mount alone is great, & I haven't yet used if for a recorder.

He's a regular on these forums, & as a fellow cameraperson, get's what's needed. His store site is...

What are the screw mounts for the handle?
Can the FS100's adjustable handle possibly mount to the AF100? I think the FS100 screw mounts are 1/4".
The side handle is one feature I realy like about the FS100.

It would be way cool to have an ADAPTER for the FS-100 handle :-)

I will post photos of my wooden handle soon. It is in the works. Possible by the end of this week.

I am just finishing work on my rail system, the handle is next. I will post info soon about the new parts. I also have a Ninja bracket that is currently being tested up by Steve Smith in Canada.

Alex Dolgin and I have developed some interesting mounts and battery options for the AF100 with NanoFlash or KiProMini, I will post about that with photos in the next few days.

We have been busy here in mud season in the NH mountains.

The screw mounts are common garden variety 1/4-20s, but I mounted a plate for a wireless receiver there.

For a grip I use an old walnut Aaton with the switch wired for the AF - However it is VERY expensive unless you happen to have an Aaton in your cupboard. The grip mounts to a rod mounted accessory bracket (bought from Abels, also very expensive). I had both of these items from the glory days of film when stuff like this was considered cheap - and used them on my HPX500, now also on the AF.

However, it's not rocket science. On another camera I have a wood handle that I shaped (files and sand paper) from an axe handle bought at a hardware store. I drilled lengthwise through it to run a cable and insert a momentary switch. Cost, about 20 bucks including the sandpaper - it mounts simply with an aluminum strap (hardware store) to a mini-rod bracket I had left over from a RedRock rig.

However again, if you're not a do-it-yourselfer, olof's stuff looks good. I haven't seen his grip, but I'm sure it will be nice.

Olof, will the handle rotate? Rotation would be awesome! and a record button would be sweet ! please email me when its ready ncak@me.com

You are on my mailing list for the handle. I expect to have prototypes ready this week. And yes it will rotate and slide back and forth, possible some vertical movement as well. I am hoping Jan is going to give me the exact specs for the switch soon. I will also make a version that uses 15mm rods to fasten the handle, instead of my "handle bracket".

Yup this is the one:http://www.abelcine.com/store/Front-Handgrip-with-Tie-Down/

Easy to adapt with any rod bracket and home made switch.

Here is an idea, bolt a pair of these Smith n Wesson sucka's :

Perfect example - I've said it before, but my sound man no longer takes a pole when we travel by airplane (hassles)... he heads to the first hardware store we find when we arrive and buys a window-washer pole. He made a little bracket to attach his shock mount... Like less that 50 bucks, leaves it in the hotel room when we leave.. Doesn't look all cool black graphite and all, but works.

Those S&W grips could be a slick option, cost more than an axe handle though. However, drilling, filing and soldering will still be necessary.

OLOF, how's it going with the handle? My hand and wrist are killing me. Throw in the torn rotator cuff and a director who doesnt like the sticks and im in agony. Ive been footballing whenever I can but when i need to get up high im hurting..

I have the first prototype done. I will shoot some photos of it today and post here. I should have the 90 degree plugs and nice on/off switches today from my supplier. So some beta units will go out next week. Both rail mount type and replacement handles mounted on the AF100 body w/o rails.

OK here are photos of my first prototype Handle on my AF100.

I will have a version that is rail mounted soon, and I plan on shipping some pre production versions for feedback next week.
If you would like to try a beta version, contact me:

I can also set up a demo on Skype.

Nice, very "Aaton" like... The rail mounted version will be a good choice for people using an external finder...
