Director's thoughts:
I have never done a straight forward family film and thought it would be a nice change of pace. I also enjoy working with new actors and expanding my real world experirnce but as always I am ervous as hell. :) I have a couple things I will be doing to trick the viewer from a Effects standpoint not story so I am excited about that need to be perfect to be pulled off so that is another level of difficulty with this project that Iam really excited/nervous about.

I'll update with pictures and progress weekly, hopefuly.
Thanks for any followers,
Rich

UPDATE

Well a day of shooting came and went. I will tell you I do not think I will ever work with kids, ever again. I had worked some kids before and they were fine. These last two were just bad all around. Didn't listen, didn't concentrate, no focus and to top it they were not that good at acting. If they were supposed to be serious they smiled...if they were supposed to smile they had no emotion. Plus the wind was out in full force and lawn mowers. I have a RODE NTG1 but that did not help...so I am one last idea away from scratching this project as I do not even want to shoot with the kids anymore. But if the writer approves I am going in an entire different direction with this...film.

That's it for now.

With kids you have to have luck... What you could do is do a kind of "acting test" with kids... Go to schools and tell them you're looking for new talents... Then you will have the ones who are interested.

You do will have some who just want to try, or because others try..But don't be afraid to say "no" to them.

With the ones you think they could be the one you're looking for, do some acting tests with them, but the "smile, cry, be angry, be sad, be happy, be scared, be afraid" stuff.

And 3 things that are always a complain in movies are Kids, Animals and Boats....(also named the KAB)

Dre...yep I can see that with the KAB. :) I have decided to go another direction with the "film" now and decided to make it into an Audio Book of sorts with film footage. If that makes any sense :) I will still credit the kids as they are in the film...you just will not hear their lines. Well if it all works out that is.
More work with Photoshop than anything else once I export the stills but in the end I think this could be a good project.

The pictures will be moving, just not in this example.

This is still in progress. I have all the footage shot and about 45% of the stills converted to the "book" style theme I am doing. I have also casted a narrator who will basically be the main character now that the other characters did not meet up to my standards. I have the writer adding some dialog for the narrator and plan on doing the audio for that by the end of the month.

Hopefully this will be ready to go by the christmas holidays.

Just finished shooting all the narrative footage and creating the "picture" look to the individual stills I m using. Now it is just time to put it all together. Hopeing to have it released by the end of the year depedning on the holiday schedule. If not it will be early January.

I would do some EQ in sound, do a low cut @200Hz and the in a high cut around 17kHz or so. And then play with it...

I think it must be possible to cut out the "fireplace, branches sounds"...

I wanted those in :), I could very easily take those out because I am using sound footage not from the video.
Thanks for watching, though!
