Betacam ???

Ok I am confused about all of the different types of broadcast formats. I know there is betacam sp, betacam sx, DVC Pro, DV, Mini dv, DVCAM....etc. anyway my question how much difference in quilty is there in the formats? and are they all Digital like miniDV? thanks

Of the ones you mentioned, only Betacam SP is not a digital format.

Betacam SX is an MPEG-2 implementation, which retains backwards compatability with BetaSP.

All the DV formats you mentioned are fundamentally the same -- they're all bitstream compatible with each other.

(and hey, you didn't even mention Digital Betacam, D1, D2, D-9, Digital-S, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO-HD, HDCAM, HDCAM-SR, 3/4", 1", M-2, and all the others...) ;D

LOL @ 3/4inch! I used that when I first started shooting News! I had the camera on one shoulder then I had to carry the deck, yes the deck on my other shoulder! Thank God for Betacam!

Oh no, definitely not.

The ones you mentioned, yes, across the board they're basically all the same quality, within reason, but the ones I added are better and worse.
