Ok, so I have searched and found several postings about this, but none have explained this well regarding what I need it for. I would like to film surfing, usually from a far distance. The ONLY drawback I could see with the DVX100 is it only has 10x optical zoom. This is decent, but not quite enough. I read about Century Optics, they have a tele-photo extender that is 1.6x and 2.0x, for roughly $800-$1500I am saving up for one of those, but decided to get a cheaper one to tide me over for a month or 2 until I can afford one of the nice ones.
So- I got a Digital Optics 2x 72mm converter lens, and it made 0 difference. No difference at all. In fact, the lens was actually smaller, so it had the look of looking through a keyhole. I was like huh?? That sucks....So now I am sceptical of the Century Optics. I was under the impression that you would have some light loss at close ranges, but I thought it would at least look CLOSER. That is what I need! I know the HVX has an optical zoom of 16x, but I can't quite afford that yet. I figured I would be ok with the 10x Optical, I would just get some sort of "zoom lens" to compensate.
Now I understand that the DVX100 is a "fixed lens" camera, but I did not think that its capibilities were so limited in this area. I can also unterstand that most on this website are more concerned about depth of field, wide angle, etc, but that does not apply so much for what I would like to do. Like I said, that was the ONLY drawback that I could see with this camera, and I didn't think it was important enough to get a different camera. I really like panasonic, they make great products, that was what I used in school, so I am very comfortable with their cameras. I got this one because of some of the features, and also the 24p and 24pa capabilities.
Can someone please help me? Is there an easy answer to this? I don't mind spending some money, but I need something that will work! Please help!:dankk2:
