Best way to transfer video to CPU other than a deck?

Just a quick question for you guys.
If I cannot or do not want to purchase a deck and I do not want to use my DVX to transfer or upload a video to my computer, the next best thing, or so I heard, is to use a cheap miniDV camera as the transferring mechanism. Do you guys agree with that? If I were to purchase just a cheap miniDV camera to use as a transferring device, would I lose any sort of quality on my video or audio by using something other than the DVX or a deck?
Thanks for any help.

No, you won't lose any quality. My "deck" is a canon elura 2 that I bought off of ebay for under $200, and it's served me VERY well. I also use it for random video's (vacation's and crap) because of it's small size vs. hauling around all my equipment.

I usually tell people go to buy the cheapest one they find, and get whatever long term warranty that is offered. It is a lot of strain on the little camera's, and the life of it is compromised considerably, but with the warranty, they'll just replace or fix whatever happens to it. Either that, or just go buy another one when the first one dies. They're getting cheaper and cheaper as time goes by.

Welcome Rasy ... Its probably a good idea to search topics before you make a new thread... just so you know, I come here at least every second day and I see this same question asked in a new topic at least once a week. I mean no offence by this comment, just wanted to make you aware.
