Best way to remove old tape residue?

I pulled out an old stand I haven't used in a while and it has a bunch of tape residue on it that I need to remove. It is dry and crusty and stuck on their pretty good. What is the best way to remove old tape residue off of metal gear?

I have seen both of those in stores. I was headed out to the hardware store and wanted to make sure of what to get. Thanks

"goo Gone " is citrus based and I think it works a bit better that "goof off" which is petrolium based, at least it smells that way, cant recommend "goo Gone" more.. its simply awesome..

Goo Gone is way better than Goof Off -- but you do have to apply it to the stain for an amount of time roughly proportional to how long the gook has been sitting on the part. I'd recommend:

- Saturate a cotton ball or pad with Goo Gone
- Wrap the cotton around the deposit
- Wrap area tightly with aluminum foil to minimize evaporation
- Come back a couple hours later
- Remove foil and cotton
- Scrape off gunk
