Best way to move up from FCE4

About to buy final cut suite 3 for an iMac just purchased. On my old power Mac g5 I have fce4. I would like to put the suite on the g5 as well but it isnt intel. So I was wondering if anybody out there has purchased old versions and installed them on older computers but still could buy the upgrade to install on newer computers? Would that be a good idea?
 
I wouldn't bother- older versions of FCP can't open projects from newer versions. In other words- the non-intel Machine is basically useless if you are using the newer version of FCP and wanted to edit the same projects on both. Use it as a media server for your home instead.

I have FCP 4.5 on my old G5. I dont have the install disc's anymore. Will the upgrade work on my MacBook pro installing w!th the serial number on my FCP on my G 5?
 
Final Cut Studio 3 is Intel only.
