Best way to get P2 footage into Avid DS

Hi All,

I hope someone can help.

I've used FCP for all my HVX200 footage, however, I'm on a project now where I'm using a PC based Avid DS and need to get HVX200 720p 59.94 footage into the camera and I need help.

While researching I noticed QuickTime does not support DVCPROHD on the PC, so how can I do this?

Will raylight wrap the video as an AVI and allow me to import it into the DS?

If not, what will allow me to grab the footage off the P2 card as AVI or WMV so that I can import it into my DS.

I appreciate any help or assistance.

There is a product called Raylight Decoder (not the same as Raylight) that lets the Windows version of QuickTime play/decode DVCProHD.

I tried Raylight decoder and got an audio error on input:cry:?! It looked like it ingested the video fine.

The camera itself records audio as uncompressed PCM, so unless the QuickTime file was created with some goofy audio codec, you should have no problem.

In QuickTime Player, you can display the audio and video codec by pressing Ctrl-I -- check that to see what format the audio is in.
 
The audio wasn't changed and is the default setting on the camera and yet, the Avid gives an error on input. It just imported through FCP using the Import p2 function and then imported into the DS using raylight decoder,hmmmmmmm.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the four audio channels and the DS doesn't know how to handle them?!!? Maybe first thing tomorrow I'lll try deleting the extra audio channels and see how that works.

BTW, I forgot to mention I'm running DS 7.5.

Sorry, that's not possible. The camera doesn't record QuickTime files, so the data from the camera has been processed. If the audio codec used for the QuickTime file isn't installed/supported on the PC, then you won't get audio.

Please bring up the Information window by pressing Ctrl-I and see what audio codec was used. If it is PCM audio and you don't get any sound, then it is time to start looking at other possible causes like the channels.
 
I really do appreaciate your attempts to help and I didn't mean for my statement

I guess that I should have elaborated: the audio and video from the QuickTime dvcprohd file that FCP creates was untouched after FCP rewrapped the mxf file into a QT file. The DVCpro HD Quicktime file's audio and video play fine on the PC through QuickTime, however, we get an error as the audio is imported. The audio is the standard that FCP exports - four tracks of 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz.

Are you actually using raylight with an Avid DS successfully?

No, I use neither Raylight nor Avid.

I have loaded QuckTime files with DVCProHD video and PCM audio into Edius Broadcast without problems.

Does the file play in QuickTime Player, or does it display an error as well? If it works in QuickTime Player, it would seem to be a problem with Avid.
 
Yes, the file plays fine in the QuicklTime Player.

I've also posted to the Avid forum and will post any solutions that we find.
