Best way to defer Editing issues

I think we can all agree that by getting this camera now we are on the bleeding edge and having to work around a lot of issues that will dissappear in the not too distant future.

I am gearing up for a feature shoot. I am hoping to find the best way to defer the editing issues while the NLEs catch up - I plan on dumping all footage to a hard disk and then to 2 dvds for redundant backups - Hopefully in the future it will be as easy as copying the MXF files from the dvds to a hard drive and importing into avid by dragging and dropping,

Does anyone see any issues with this approach- will putting the footage on dvd make it more difficult later - I cant see any reason why

That is a good question! I think as long as you back up one card to one disc then it should not be an issue. My plan is to get a MAC laptop for simple editing (cuts only) for now. Many of my agency clients have killer FCP systems in house already. Many have expressed interest in being able to get HD footage on a harddrive, instead of renting decks after the shoots. Just did a spot with my DVX and the agency guy swore that everything we shot (3 versions) was timing out. I said I was not comfortable and wanted to do the 3 vo versions with some shorter reads - sure enough we needed to use the shorter reads. With an HVX the footage could have been
dumped to the laptop and a rough edit for timing put together.
