Hello to everyone

I did a documentary with the SDX900 using the 24p native mode and I liked the results. I also liked the filmlike camas of this camara. Now I am looking for a more modern camera to achieve something similar.

I been looking at the HPX 500 and a HVX200 as a second unit for some simpler shots .

I see they record in 24PN only in 720. So if I go for 108024p, is there a big difference in the proggesive look? not talking about resolution. I mean is the 24p going to look somewhat fake vs the look of 24PN?

is the filmlike mode of the hpx500 similar to the filmlike2 of the sdx900?

On the other hand, I am looking at the varicam 270, it shoots at 1080 24PN but is more expensive of course, and I guess those images would be more difficult to match with images coming from a HVX 200 as a second unit because the diffrence in quaity if I go AVC intra. Is this worthit over the hpx 500 at 1080 24p?

Thanks a lot and best regards

No the 24P over 60i will not be fake looking. The DVX100 series did all it's recording this way and if you've seen any of the films done with it...you can see how good it looks. IMO you should get the camera based on the features that you need other than this. It just adds one step in post...that's it. The 24P on all the new HD Panasonics is great, native or not...it's still progressive "wrapped" in 60i.
Don't worry about it...just shoot 24P advanced and you won't lose any quality.

Hello, the HPX500 does not have advanced mode in HD, only in SD. So I have to choose between 1080 24p or 720 24p native, what do you think is the best option? The project is a documentary I may be able to show in some local theaters, then sell to Local Tv and publish a DVD.

Thanks a lot!

Lol, this is two threads now Maltese... As PF said, it doesn't matter. 1080 24p will be as good as native anyway for you. So definitely go 1080 24p over 720.

Yes it shoots 1080 24P Advanced with 2:3:3:2 pulldown. This is the best mode to use for editing a true 24 progressive frames form the 60i recording. 24P Advanced is not the same as 24P Native. The HPX 500/370 HVX200 have in 1080 - 24P and 24P Advanced. Shoot in 24P Advanced and you'll be set.
