Time to retire my trusty 10 year old Fuji Finepix(which took excellent low light videos) . Undecided which under $300 point and shoot I should get.

Narrowed my choice down to

Canon SX260 HS

-great slow motion feature

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 / DMC-TZ30 3D

-great high burst 10fps stills mode

Are there any 'must have' features in point and shoots that would come in handy for
-previz work
-location scouting
-simple 'BTS' footage

I just ordered the Panasonic LX7. Can be purchased for under $300 if you shop around. Ultra fast lens that starts at a wide 24mm f/1.4 and goes to a still-fast 90mm f/2.3.

I have been very happy with the LX7. I use for quick stills, static video shots like a scoreboard as well as a GoPro type of camera. It does a great job for $299. The Hack team has one so lets hope they can get the bitrates up!

I would also consider the Sony HX20v, also under $300, I have the LX7, nice camera very fast operation, manual adjustments for video. raw. also great jpeg still images, fast start up, video recording is very responsive, easy to activate video mode. no noticable delay while the video writes to memory unlike the Sony HX9V where you need to wait a few seconds between video clips . I hear the HX20v though is much improved. The LX7 has a very limited zoom and I prefer the video of the HX9v due to aliasing of the LX7. I haven't tried to turn the default sharpening down so perhaps that would help. The LX7 also has a lens cap that is a bit of a pain to deal with. The slowmo is pretty cool on the LX7, here's some 120fps video - http://youtu.be/FaDXGN3qOns
The ZS30/TZ40 is coming out this month but price will be high at first.

Can someone PM me as to where the LX7 can be found for under $300? Would love to have one at that price.

I also vouch for the LX7. It's been a welcome addition to my kit bag for a while now. I've shot a few things on it, and use it as a "C Cam" for wedding videos.

Great A-cam for some things as well, such as this music video I did:
