Best thunderbolt adapter and best USB 3 adapter?

Hello All,

I was was wondering which is the fastest thunderbolt adapter to transfer footage from O7Q SSD to mac? I will be transferring footage from 256 GB SSDs . I am aware that this is the most expensive option .

So if not this, what's the best USB3 option to move data across? If the difference in time is not that significant, then of course, this might be the best solution as I will then buy 2 of these to transfer footage to single mac or 2 different macs

The manufacturer name and the product name will be appreciated. Of course, reliability is more important than price.

Found in the new CD O7Q Manual:

Thunderbolt:
seagate GoFlex Model stae128 or stae129 we have measured 325-375Mb/sec transfer rates to a fast raiD drive, depending on your configuration.

USB3:
seagate GoFlex Model stae104 or calvary usb 3.0 adapter, Model causM2001. an expresscard 34 to usb 3.0 adapter may be required for full usb 3.0 compatibility.

I personally use the Delock Thunderbolt Adapter (needs external power) its really fast (370MB/s) and handles 512gb well (no warm-up-copy-stops like other USB3 Adapter)
But check also the other end (RAID, SSD)

The speed is fast, what is your configuration on the other end? Any link for the delock thunderbolt adapter?
 
Yeah, you need a fast raid or SSD on the other end. Otherwise the Goflex adaptors are pretty fast. Dumping down to my MBP SSD I can unload 256GB in 10 mins - which I guess is around 350MB/s - going to a single 7200 spinning disk (also via TB) it's more like 30mins.
 
I'm using the Seagate GoFlex adapter and it's just OK... At first, the SSD would just plug in and work perfect. Now, often times I have to plug in the SSD, then disconnect / re-connect the cable to get it to work.

One of the studios I freelance at has this and it seems pretty good. I would love this, but I've been spending too much money.

And yes, Thunderbolt is way faster than USB3 as I have both connectors and I think Thunderbolt copies at least 4 times fast it seems like.
 
I make a small plastic adapter that goes on the Seagate TB dock. It makes the connection straight in and is very solid. I will post photos here of it in a while. You can only push the SSD straight in and it has no wiggle. I think the way the SSDs float and bend down is detrimental to the connection. This fixes it.

I actually 3D print this part and I will be selling it at my WEBstore starting tomorrow. It will cost $25.00.

It's funny. I never noticed before but the goflex seagate dock seems to have quite a strong magnet in it. I guess it helps keep things in place, and ok for ssd. I would have thought not good for spinning 2.5"? I guess they know what they are doing though. Not like they are going to release a product that wipes peoples drives. I'm guessing the threshold for magnetising a drive is probably way higher.
 
Wow, that's smart Olof. How does the frame stay attached to the GoFlex adapter? I don't see any mounting points on the dock.

We just changed the way we ship this adapter. We decided to ship it with 2 O-rings instead of tape.

This is much less messy and quick to remove for full size SATA drives. And it is still sturdy and it actually makes for better ventilation and a bit of rubbery protection for the adapter.
