Best Technique, best card to manual white balance to match 7d

Can someone please give me a rundown on the best and proper way to white balance. Every bow and then I get different results matching my 5D Mark II with my 7D. Is there a setting to shoot the white card or grey card? What ISO, what aperture, just set it on AWB? I use a grey card but when I set it up, sometimes it turns up different. Also, how do you white balance a Run and Gun situation? Thank you

JoeJITSU,

What I did was similar to what Shane Hurlbut did to his dslrs when he first shot the act of valor film. He found out from tests that even the same models, he used a lot of 5D2s, don't have exactly the same WB characteristics.

So what he did was aim each at the same scene with color charts etc, and tweaked the WB SHIFT/BKT in the canon menu.
So with that he was able to get very close color reproduction from all his cameras and all he has to do was dial in his color temp by eye during a shoot and they would be close.

I did the same with mine since I also have the 5D2 and 7D.
I was trying to look for his post to give you the link but he recently changed the look of his site.

edit:

The canons out of the box would have orangey yellows and some strong reds in them so best to use a color chart and try to look at the yellows, especially the lime yellows,
watch out they don't get to reddish.

Thanks Ted.
Yea...I hate to say this but I might be going towards the Dark side...Nikon. My friend shoots with D800 and he does so many projects that he can not color correct in time. His colors are amazing right out if the camera. The of reason I am holding back now is my clients wanting a Canon....Boo to me.
