Best stability Rig for the AF-100?

Hi Everyone. I am new to the community. This is my first post. I can't believe it took me this long to join.
This summer I will be the DP for a feature length documentary. I will be shooting everything on my AF-100. For hand held documentary stuff in the past i have used a Steady Stick ($99). It has worked ok, but i am now looking into other options.

Has anyone played around with solutions that have proven to work well with this camera?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Cheers.

We've found a Redrock micro shoulder mount system to be the best of the options we've tried so far.

We've rigged ours with a spare Libec tripod base plate so we can quickly swap the camera between the rig and a static tripod or tripod mounted on a dolly, which seems to work well.

It isn't a substitute for a full-on steadicam rig I'm sure but we've had good results with it.

Cheers, Hywel Phillips

I got the basic rig from Handy Filmtools (now Edelkrone) and it does a pretty good job, but you can't shoot using the camera's viewfinder unless you have a very flexible neck, and under sunny conditions, the lcd screen is no option... whatever the rig.

I use the shoulder rig from CPMFilmTools, and I like it. The AF100 it too tall to fit in the sidewinder pro model, but if you get the basic model and add on the weight kit, works perfect. Sets the EVF exactly to my eye.

Thanks! I actually owned a redrock shoulder mount for my HVX/Letus Extreme rig and never got comfortable with it since the camera itself was so huge! Now, i wish i would have held onto it to try with the AF-100 .

Thanks for your help.

Shooter nailed it!

Nothing against anybody's design, but the main problem with the majority of the shoulder rigs for the AF100, my current shoulder rig included, is that the camera rides too far forward rather than on the shoulder. I can get a more stable shot for a longer period of time by removing all the apparatus and cradling the camera on my shoulder next to my head much like i did with my 16 & 35mm cameras.

Not quite what I meant ....but I have to agree.

I actually meant. Use 'Head and Legs' for as much of your shoot as possible. Your editor will love you for it. Shaky shots are a PITA

Agreed Shooter, call me old fashioned but there is nothing better than a good tripod, dolly/slider and crane. Handheld has never really been my thing.

Hey Olaf, I don't see your nifty handle on your website! What does it sell for?

I am just finishing the second batch of handles.

They will be on my WEBsite later this week.

There are 2 versions, one is a body mount (replaces the Pany Handle) it is $325.00 in oiled Mahogany.

There is also a 15mm rail mount, it will be $375.00 in oiled Mahogany.

I am waiting for reports from my beta testers. And we are about to make a batch in Cherry and Walnut next.

You can order by contacting me directly, before the website has been updated. I hope to get the photos of all the options up on the WEBsite with pricing today.

The photo above is of the first batch just before oiling and anodizing. The aluminum parts will all be Black and the Mahogany will be much darker after a couple coats of oil (Danish Teak Oil).
