Best Slider for its money for the AF100

+1 for the Dana Dolly. I've got one, and I positively love it. The junior combo stands do add to the price, but they have a deal going with Norm's Studio Equipment in Burbank to get stands for $160/each. They are very good stands, extremely high quality, and it's the best price you're gonna find. As for the system itself - it's super quick and easy to set up, smooth & virtually silent. The shuttle, as I call it, has a Mitchell mount with 100mm & 75mm bowl adapters along with 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes for accessories. Best of all, you can use standard aluminum conduit (1"1/4) as your track, and cut down to whatever size you need.

Does it make sense to want to get a slider/jib combo? I've seen these around and they're facinating. I like having two tools in one when i'm out and about and want to get a shot with some height.

I don't need a supper long jib. I have a 20 ft crane i can access locally if I need that kind of shot.

The pocket dolley has low friction derlin sliders, and is designed for lighter weight cameras. Up to 10 lbs I believe. The cineslider is a higher level product with a stronger reinforced frame, ceramic/ball bearing slider, and can hold a lot more weight. You can run a full RED package on a cineslider.

The philip bloom one is a pocket dolley with some extra accesories packaged in.

Awesome! Thanks for the summary. So what do you think would work best with a fully loaded AF100? It looks like the cineslider would be the better one to buy seeing as it could end up weighing more than 10lbs.

standard. 5 Footer is too big for travel.

you could probably get away with a PocketDolley.... i used it with an HVX200 no problems. A simple AF100 setup should not stress its capabilities. The Cineslider is just a lot cooler. :)

I'm thinking of getting one that's good enough to carry on to the next camera. What do you find is the max. length that's practical to carry/transport around?

I really like the Sachtler FSB-6 System. Mine has the carbon fiber legs. And, if you run and gun a lot. The carbon fiber is amazing when you have to carry EVERYTHING yourself. I was indecisive for a while over weather to get CF or Aluminum. But the CF was a life safer on my back.

That said, i'm trying to make the move up to a more cinematic rig and less of a ENG rig. So, I might be looking to upgrade to a 100mm ball head sooner rather than later. If so, i'll look to post my current system for sale here.

Well, then one would expect you to be singing its praises, eh? :)

No, seriously, thanks for the feedback. I see you're posting over on the tripod thread so I'll take this over there where it belongs.

This is the best slider I've tried

http://www.smartsystem.it/video/en/products/smartslider/148-smartslider-pro.html

it uses bearings and not teflon and it is really smooth, the smoother I've tried and it is smooth regardless of the weight.

It is an italian quality product.

It is more expensive than the other (760 euro) but it is fantastic. In future it will be controlled by a programmable motor and if you buy now it is ready for this.

If I will rent it again I will make a clip for vimeo to show you.

Regards

Gary

+1 Happy 3' cineslider user...

I've used it with my 170, prompter and sachtler dv12 head...which is about 23 lbs or so(its rated for much more depending on how you mount it)...and is quiet. Very nicely made product. And, the Kessler people are a pleasure to deal with.

If you aren't wanting to spend a lot, I built the zazaSlider as well and love it. It works great and I've used it in many projects. I have an AF100 on the way and plan on using it with it. It's definitely the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Everyone who has used it loves it.

That said, if I was spending more, I would DEFINITELY go with the cineslider. Kessler gear is really good, and I have their crane and flex dolly system. Everyone who has used my gear is impressed by the quality of work in the Kessler design.

So does it seem like the 5' Cineslider is too unwieldly? Will i regret not getting the 5' one? I don't a ton of experience with slider and it seems to me that having the longer one is better?

What about the Kessler Pocket Dolly or Bloom Pocket Dolly? Smaller (3ft or 2ft version) but same overall design as the Cineslider, the Bloom one has the ability to take a motor if you want it.

I've just sent off an enquiry to Kessler, interested for my GH2 and potentially an AF101 if it will take it - anyone have any experience or opinions on these to share with me?

I want to sit it on a Libec LS-28 tripod, which is my get-me-started tripod decision until I can afford one of those posh things you guys get all lathered about. Not sure if that will be ok

I'm defo a noob here and haven't used a slider before but love what I think I could do with one of these

Just saying..... works great for me (and many others around the world!)

I'm using a slidekamera.com Pro slider. A bit heavy but very smooth and slides very smooth. You can't use it on a single head because it weights to much so you need to have two tripods. But it also works with smaller light stands so it's just most heads that can't take the weight - 7kg+camera.

I have a Glidetrack, which seems to be quite similar to the Zaza. I've enjoyed using it.

I made a very geeky unboxing video for it when I recieved it:

Hello,

After some research, I am about to buy a Kessler Cineslider:

http://www.kesslercrane.com/product-p/100154.htm

Are there any reasons why this may not be the best choice for my AF100? -- bad experiences, alternatives, etc.

I know this is a vague question, sorry.

My head is swimming with possibilities but just want to make sure I cover all my bases before I place the order.

Thanks in advance. -m
