GH4 Best Settings/Mode for Astro Photography?

Is it best to have it in M or P? There seems to be an automatic exposure that changes. Any ideas how to switch that off?

Probably want it in M, manual mode.

What about the auto exposure level (compensate exposure?) that moves at the bottom on the screen?? Is it a metering setting? WHen I press the AEL lock button, nothing happens in M.

Say I set it to 30sec shutter at ISO 400 and a lens at 2.8 yet it appears overexposed because pf the auto exposure things yet the same settings on the 5DM3 produce fine night shot images.
