Best Settings for Post-Production

Since we have such powerful post-production tools (I use FCP with magic bullet plug-ins) the initial "look" of the footage is not as important as it used to be. What I want to get feedback on is what settings in pre-production will produce the maximum flexibility and quality/clarity of image that I can manipulate in post. I assume the settings would minimize artifacts, maximize detail, etc.

I am relatively new to the DVX community (with a dvx100b) and have Barry's Book, which has helped a ton.

Thanks!

Maximum flexibilty in post u would shoot flat (everything at 0) so u can manipulate as much as u want. the more u Colour Grade the more the quality decreases especially with DV (may not be very visible to the normal eye depending on how far u push it). For Best quality but less flexiblity in post you shoot with a scenefile setting that already achieves the look you want. For best of both worlds u can start the look in camera and polish it off in post. However whichever method u chose one thing is universal and that is PROPER LIGHTING!! :)

cheers

Where did you ever get the idea that "the initial "look" of the footage is not as important as it used to be"? Every effort to acquire the best in every step of the production yields the best results.
Everything has trade offs. The more post production you need (especially to correct something you could have done shooting) the less quality you will have. Taking the time to set up the shot, create the best lighting and shoot carefully gives you the best material for post production. It will also save you a great deal of time and frustration in post production. Indecently, there are NO settings or quick buttons for great results. In this "give me results now world" taking the time to learn your craft is a great trip to take.

I agree; shoot clean, pump in lots of lights and expose properly will give you the most options in post.

But, IMHO achieving the "look" in camera is the best way to go.
