Best Settings For Nighttime Shots

Hey guys, I'm going to be filming the aurora and stars tonight and was wondering what the best settings would be for maximizing quality? Thanks.

fast lens, steady tripod, as low of an ISO as you can stand(minimize FPN), creative movie mode, nostalgic film mode set with -2 on everything.

That seems to work for me for most dark shots.

I agree with everything Svart said. Using a slow shutter will help if your not moving the camera and your subject is still.

What exactly does the slow shutter speed do? I thought that was only used for taking pictures, I'm just going to film. Thanks.

Because it will hack your framerate down. If you put the shutter speed to 1/2 you're only shooting two frames a second but it's still in the 720/60p package so it's annoying as heck.

If you're shooting timelapses you can use the stills mode, but other wise for video stick with whatever shutter for the framerate you're shooting.

I disagree. I can see your point for objects and cameras in motion, no argument there. But, this shot will most likely be locked down with minimal motion, if any at all.

I'd have to agree with October. If the image is locked down with no movement then your frame rate won't matter at all. The frame isn't changing. But then you also could just take stills at that point.
