Best settings for low noise - especially in greenscreen

I know its been done a thousand times, I've been through Barry's book and through the site but I'm after examples and settings.

It must be me because I've been shooting a while now and getting nothing but noise in two different HVX200 cameras. I know the HVX is a noisy beast but I've seen footage that other people have done and it looks so much better, cleaner & sharper. We've had plenty of light so its not about low light conditions.

I've used both SGPro 35mm adaptors and stock lens.

What have you shot, greenscreen or not and with what settings.

I'll post into this thread stills showing you how noisy and un-sharp my footage has been. I've been focusing by zooming in and using the focus assist and getting it the sharpest, then zooming out but it never seems right.

If you can share your best stills then that would be great.

Thanks

The HVX is actually alot less noisy of a camera then I have heard.
Compared to my old Sony V1U, its worlds ahead.

Make sure your gain is set to 0
and what is your detail level and coring set to?

Mine is always set to 0 on the gain.....nothing but noise!!!! Even when i shoot outside in the sunlight....blacks and other colours just noise! Im thinking of selling my HVX for the Sony PMW EX1...I have tried everything and can not get a noise free image. I shouldnt be this hard!!!!......and breath.

p.s...black balance?

p.s...black balance?

Try holding down the auto white balance button longer. After adjusting white balance to a white source that you have in front of your lens, if you keep the button pressed, the camera will go into a black balance adjustment.

This is critical for getting good color reproduction in the dark and black areas and can help in eliminating noise that shows up when the black balance is off.

As Barry says in the HVX book, BPress and Cine-V are the least noisy gamma settings, and they make a big difference.

B-Press or Cine-V for Lo Noise. Also setting the detail level to (-7 to -5) to get rid of jaggies and create a smooth transition from foreground to background. You can sharpen in post if needed.

Funny thing, I hooked up my CPU to my old CRT monitor and guess what?? no noise in the blacks at all. These lcd monitors really don't do the HVX any justice. It looked crystal clear with rich blacks on LOW gamma.

Try it if you have one. Its like night and day.
