best settings for film BUT also good for motion

Shooting some material for a kids tv program - and though we almost always use pretty close to the stock F5 scene file we're having a problem with poor capture of motion.

We're shooting some animals and some farm equipment that move across the screen pretty fast - and the motion is pretty "messy" with the set up as we have it.

What can we do to preserve the overall look we love but do a better job capturing motion?

Thanks

Two choices -- compromises with either:

Lower the shutter speed.

Use 30p.

Either way, you'll lose some of the "film look," but you'll capture smoother motion.

Or, move the camera with the animal.

For example - a tractor comes into frame and goes out of frame (camera remains stationary)

If you'd like you can see a rough edit with the existing footage at:

It doesn't show up so much in the online version but on a broadcast monitor the tractor shots where it comes in and out of the frame get a bit messy.

PS - one of the above replies said to LOWER the shutter speed - wouldn't that make it even messier - I would think increasing the shutter speed would do better in capturing motion?

Is this something you have seen after rendering 'adding 2 - 3 Pulldown'?

BTW

Great job so far on project; it held me throughout. (shouldnt the host be wearing a more 'clever' wardrobe though? Seemed a bit blase for his character. Bravo anyway!

No - shooting 24P; 1/48 - it is apparent right out of the camera - any shots with relatively quick motion (tractor thru frame) have too much motion blur - and I'd like to minimize it without totally losing the filmic look. Looking for suggestions.

Thanks for your kind words re the project,
