best setting

Had my camera for about 4 months now and it's been fine, however with the summer on the way i have a question i need help with.

I film soccer games here in the uk for my local team, we film from the back of the granstand which is under cover.

Now with the better weather the pitch is half in shade and and half in sunlight.

If i set the camera up for the sunlight the shade areas are too dark if i set up for the shade then the bright area are too bright.

what would be the best option for setting up, remembering the action can switch from shade to sunlight and vice versa very quickly

The only reasonable answer for this is the auto-iris or auto-exposure (which is probably on anyway). Wide shots with both sun and shade in them will be ugly. On closer shots the iris will track as you pan from shade to sun or vice versa.

You could try a low-contrast filter on the lens, but that would probably just wash everything out.

No real good answers here; video doesn't have a lot of range. Even film would have difficulty with this problem. Sorry. The human eye is still a lot better than a camera.
