what is the recommended setting for getting a still photo with the HVX 200?
should i just roll on 720 6p and in FCP make a still?
or should i do an interval recording?
or something different?

Why would you not record in 1080p? You might want to increase the shutter speed, depending on the subject.

I'd use 1080 for max resolution. It will still stink for prints. thats equivalent to a 2.1 MP camera. For prints most people use 10+. You can extract still in post.

Make sure you are in a progressive mode, I would go 1080, and I would also crank up the shutter speed. 1/48 (which is shutter off) which is what we use normally at 24p motion recording is too slow for most still work, I would def crank it up to 1/125 or 1/250 or even more light permitting. That is only if you are wanting to pull stills and don't care about using the motion.
