Callaghan always is a stud in Film Discussion

He nailed pretty much most of them. I'll add:

Glory
Gladiator
Black Hawk Down

The take over of Cambodia by Khmer Rouge in The Killing Fields.

Any battle scene in Apocalypse Now (Yes I misspelled it)

The final fight scenes in Cinderella Man.

#2 The Battle of Sterling in Braveheart

It's quite good, but I don't know if its one of the best reenactment films considering its actually the Battle of Sterling Bridge, wheres the bridge? I think that was actually a big reason they won that battle, using long spears just as Alexander made famous the phalanx. But still a damn fine movie.

The Dam Busters and Apollo 13 both rocked.
Private Ryan also earns and honourble mention.
I'm sure there are others, that dont' come to mind now.

Also I give Forest Gump props, not for any one, but for an overall good reenactment.

- Mikko ... wonders why Hanks is in most of those.

Technically, I Agree...but I have always felt that this scene was a representation of many historic Scots' battles rolled up into one. And don't forget, not much is known in the way of 13th century hard fact surrounding Wallace himself.

When asked by a local why the Battle of Stirling Bridge was filmed on an open plain, Gibson answered that "the bridge got in the way". "Aye," the local answered. "That's what the English found."

That and the bridge in question is in the middle of town now. Bordered by a busy intersection, a railway and a McDonalds.

- still a cool bridge though. :)

- Mikko ... was in Stirling when he signed up to 'user.

I know its hard to fathom because it hasnt happend yet, (making it a pre-enactment) but duh......how about THE T800 saving our ASSES In Terminator 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I know there was a T3, but it sucked. So I'm ignoring it.

Bloody Sunday
Touching the Void...geezie wheezie, if you haven't seen this movie yet, do it tonight. It's about two dudes trying to survive a mountain climb. "Whoa"...Keanu style

For whatever the technical inaccuracies in Braveheart, it sure brought Scottish history into the public view. And OMG what a story. This actually supplanted The Wind and the Lion as my favorite movie for almost a year before falling back into second place on my all time favorites list.

Another great reenactment was Opie's Apollo 13. He used no stock footage and was quite proud of that fact.

(Great list, btw, Chad  )

Great list. Most of my favorites have been mentioned, but I would add some classics you may have forgotten:

- Lawrence of Arabia
- The Great Escape
- Zulu
