Best Quality GH13 720p 50/60 ONLY PTool Settings?

Has anyone found a hack setting that optimizes FH mode, either 50 or 60p? and is still reasonably reliable.

Playback in camera not needed
1080 FHD mode not needed.

Assume using Sandisc Extreme 30mb card

I just need the best 720p 50/60 setting that will handle auto focus on Lumix lenses.

The old Jobless setting was good way back, but lot's of things have change with PTools since then.

lpowell, you may have played with this a bit. (BTW thanks for the heads up on the Lumix 45-200, very happy with the purchase for my application)

Going through all the old hack threads people seem to have had around 35mb, i'd like to be up near 50. I know low light/low detail will defeat this down to 8- 13mb but i mostly shoot this outdoors/hi detail.

I have shot FHD at 50mb and it's so detailed almost 3D in appearance, but i want 50p.

I`m on the same boat, I´m shooting always @ 720p50.

Lets pray for lpowell giving us a new year present :)

I have some settings somewhere... I only shoot 720 60p for live news type / red carpet events but I tweaked and got some pretty kick ass settings somewhere now if I can only find where i saved the hack file.... Again I always start from 'jobless D' settings and tweak from there.. I don't have the sandisk either I have transcend 32 gig class 10s and I had no issues shooting lots of interviews on a red carpet event.

Thanks for the props, the 720p SH mode at 50/60 fps is a challenge I'd like to revisit. The problem is that most of the patches that control SH bitrate also affect the FHD 1080p mode as well. That's why I developed my Fast-Action 3-Frame GOP Patch for SH mode in 25/30p rather than 50/60p. At the time, I couldn't get optimal results at 50Mbps in 720p60 without breaking 1080p24.

In addition to increasing its bitrate, I'd also want to reduce the GOP-length of 720p mode from 30 frames down to 6-12 frames. As with my 3-frame GOP patch at 25/30p, I believe this would significantly improve the codec's ability to track rapid motion. To optimize this properly in conjunction with FHD mode, I'd also want to optimize both bitrate and GOP-length of 1080p video at 50Mbps, in non-Native 24/25p interlaced mode. (The long GOP-length of interlaced 1080p mode forced me to throttle it to maintain stability at 50Mbps in my Fast Action Patch.)

There's only one barrier to producing this optimized 50Mbps patch - PTool 3.51d does not allow me to alter the GOP-length of interlaced 1080p modes. Since early versions of PTool did provide this feature, I believe it would only take a simple update to reactivate it. I've asked Vitaliy about this and I'm hoping he'll find time soon to release an updated version.

More recently, I've been exploring the use of PTool with the G2, which has many of the features of the GH2, but is limited to SH mode like the GF1. I've been considering producing a patch specifically for the G2/GF1 that optimizes their 720p mode at 25/30 fps, as well as my 1920x810 MJPEG anamorphic mode. This would also work on the GH1, though I'm not sure how I'd handle its 1080p mode with this patch. The problem here, however, is that the PAL <-> NTSC patch does not yet work on the G2. I've discussed this issue with Vitaliy and I believe he's currently working on a solution.

lpowell, thanks for the info. If you were to revisit 720p 50/60fps, what would your starting point be as regard to PTools settings ingnoring the fact that it may break FHD mode.

BTW i have copies of early versions of PTools if you need them.

Thanks, but I have them archived as well. The problem is that the early versions of PTool don't contain the more recent patches that I need to maintain 1080p stability at high bitrates. A fully updated version of PTool is really needed to achieve optimal results.

I`m looking after the best quality 720p50 (or 60), I don´t mind if the FHD@1080 breaks, since I never use 1080. If I load the preset I know I`m stuck to 720p, no problem...
Any clue?

And Happy 2011!

Does anyone have the older versions (specifically 3.4) of ptools that they could send me if I PM them my email?

thanks

without wanting to sound like an uneducated newbie... what?! Is the SH 720 50p mode less reliable than the FHD mode then? I planned on shooting exclusively at 720 50p for weddings but if this is the case then it looks like I may loose my smooth slow mo to go to the more reliable 25p setting.

Just to clarify I'm not talking about the MJPEG option, I'm talking AVCHD but the 2nd quality down which I think is 720 50p instead of 1080 25p. Is this 720 50p less reliable than the 1080p 25p on a hacked GH13?

No, I found the SH 50/60p video mode to be more readily stabilized than the FHD 24/25p mode, largely because the interlacing in FHD mode results in higher bitrates. Nevertheless, I was able to fine-tune both FHD and SH video modes to produce reliable results at peak bitrates of up to 75Mbps, while maintaining average bitrates within 50Mbps. Here's a link to the details, along with a downloadable PTool INI patch settings file:

75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch

Ipowell would this be different to your high reliability patch that people have told me to use? I really want to lean towards the reliability side of things over the quality as its for weddings so i simply can't have a failure. I'm using Class 10 panasonic gold cards if it helps.

Many thanks

edit: sorry ive just read in your post you reference the 40Mbps High Reliability Patch. I think this is the one I'd like to go for. Could you link me to the relevant file/settings?
