A few months back we had a three-camera shoot. Two HVX200's and my HMC150. The two HVX200's were recording to tape, the HMC150 went to the SD card.

The producer/editor wanted the hmc150's footage on tape. I attached one of the HVX200's to the HMC150 with a component cable to dub the shots.

The result? The footage that was dubbed to tape using the HVX200 was a lot softer looking than the footage shot on the HVX200.

Does anyone have an idea of how to get my footage directly to MiniDV from my HMC150 without that quality loss? I'd like it to look as good as the stuff shot on the HVX200.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried down-rezzing in an editor, and then printing to tape?

This is what I've done in the past, and was quite happy with the quality of the finished SD video.

That's possible. I'm going to try that out. The producer/editor has copies of the native footage on his hard drive so I'll relay the idea. Thanks.

After researching the issue, I think my problem was using the composite cable in the first place. I shouldn't have expected a crystal clear image from a single, multiplexed analog video cable. Component cables would have done a better job. For situations like this, I wish the hmc150 had a DV output.
