Hi all:

I normally shoot with the Small HD DP6 with my GH4 and it has worked well. I am doing a high profile shoot next week though with the director and producer who want a 17-19" monitor on set. It seems that most of the pro monitors don't have HDMI input (understandable), but without pulling the specs for every Panasonic, Sony and TV logic monitor, does anyone know of a pro level monitor that has HDMI input?

I went through this a little while back and got too close to the shoot date without a solution, and I didn't want to buy an HDMI to SDI converter, so I picked up a 19" HD TV from Best Buy. Not a Pro level monitor by any means, but it worked just fine for a low cost video village monitor. The biggest downside is the lag from the HDMI. If you are working with audio they will need to monitor from the HD TV rather than the mixer feed or the sync will be way off.

Good Luck!

Hmm, if we cannot locate a pro monitor, we may try this. But seeing as it may be my only monitor on set, I would be a little nervous trying to judge my lighting on a consumer monitor.

I either loop thru HDMI to my DP4 onboard to my CamLink wireless transmitter, then receive to a consumer 15" LCD for director via HDMI receiver, or use any HDMI>SDI converter to route into a proper SDI production monitor.

Alternate is use my DP7 onboard, and use it to output a wired SDI signal to production monitor. I really dislike an umbilical, so go wireless when I can. Won't even consider an HDMI tether. If you'd like to use my setup, drop me a line. I'm in Playa del Rey.

+1 for a decent HDTV. Remember the LCD on the GH2/GH3/GH4 is a consumer display on a consumer camera. What we see everyday when we shoot with the GH cameras is a consumer display.

Maybe picking up a color calibration device that works on non computer displays could help with the color accuracy if it is that much of a concern. Of course a professional display will likely be better but you really have to weigh just how much more accurate will it really be and if it is worth it compared to everything else you are using.

Have discovered that renting an HDMI to SDI convertor box will be much easier, I have sent the info for the rental house to the producer.

Anyone know what the MustHD M701 is like, not a lot of bucks but I assume Chinese so even at $345 could be overpriced. Could be a cheap interim until the Atomos Shogun arrives and they sort out triggering with Panasonic
