Best portable HDMI playback solution?

Anyone know of a good way to get 720p files from my Mac onto TVs/projectors out in the world? Vs. burning a BlueRay, is there some sort of box I could file-transfer an H264 or MPEG, and then playback via HDMI at a client's, a club, etc?

The previous gen. Apple TV seems possible for 720 at up to 24fps; my research tells me it's a little picky about playback. The current Apple TV has no drive, just buffer memory, and relies on your network to stream.

I'm not interested in a laptop solution - I have an old G4 Powerbook that's all I need laptop wise, don't want to drop a grand on something new. Not interested in ripping bluerays and then carrying a player around, either. Would prefer to just copy a video file.

Can a playstation play video files from a data DVD? Any other ideas out there?

If a smaller form factor will work for you I am successfully using the Aluratek Cinpal with its 8.9 inch screen. I am encoding to mpeg2 at 12000 kbs at 30p and it looks stunning. Other formats in 720p and 1080i are supported. Has battery or A/c power as well as 4GB internal storage with additional SD card port. Can also do componet out to a HDTV but not HDMI. I paid $135. http://aluratek.com/cinepal-hd-personal-media-player-8-9-inch

That cinepal looks pretty cool - I do need the HDMI though to preview on a big screen.

If we don't get more chime-ins I may eBay up and older Apple TV and give it a shot.
