Best Nikkor adapter for Manual Nikkors

I own the adaptimax and it is solid billet bulletproof with very tight tolerances...zero slop that I can tell. Its also much more precise in aperture adjustment since its a thumbscrew. The only caveat is you need to make sure the screw is out enough before putting on some lenses or it scrapes the housing of the rear element in some lenses...no real damage but just something to be aware of when using it.

I also have the voightlander and the adaptimax blows it away. Its black chrome plated brass for the main body, stainless for the m4/3 socket and nickel plated brass for the adapter to nikon lens socket. Also the lens socket can be tweaked if an even tighter fit is desired...or you're using worn lenses. Very top notch and I'd buy it again, but something tells me I will not need to...ever!

Thanks to those who have purchased our Adaptimax range of adapters. We are a small company who don't spend a fortune on advertising compared to our rivals, but we are working flat out to keep up with demand, mostly due to word of mouth. It can't be any better than that.

B&H stock our products and sell dozens of them every week. We have a great reputation and remember, every one of our adapters is guarenteed for 12 months no quibble. If it gets a glitch of any sort we sort it immediately via Fedex. Yes we are slightly more expensive than others out there but you get what you pay for, and if you are a professional you will want reliability in a product backed up with first rate customer support.

We think our adapters are head and shoulders above the opposition and the people who buy our products think the same.

At the mment B&H are again out of stock ( they sell them as fast as we can send them) and are currently closed for a religious holiday. We have all adapters currently in stock ready for next day dispatch worldwide. Alternatvely B&H will have stock on or very shortly after the 28th April.

Anyone who has purchased an Adaptimax Micro 4/3 adapter, whether Nikon or Canon EF, will tell you the fit is perfect, acuracy is 100% and they are built rock solid. When you get one in your hand you know you have got your money's worth.

Cheers
Steve

Love to hear this from you Steve. I'm set to go with an AF100 package, but all the good quality adapters are out of stock or hard to find, so I'll be looking at yours on April 28th.

Yea good to hear Steve...I'm actually going to be purchasing from your site ASAP since I have an AF100 on the way. Do you guys offer small dvxuser discounts? sorry, had to ask since i've seen other companies do it on this site.

Also - how long does it take to ship from UK to the states? Atlanta Georgia to be exact.

Filmboy77,
we post out to the USA every day. On average it takes three days with Fedex International Priority with full tracking.

As for discount, our adapters sell themselves and are worth every penny. We ran a 10% discount on our adapters through March at launch of the Micro 4/3 adapters, and we are working 7 days a week to keep up with orders, but I tell you what.

If you order before the end of this month through our website, and use the code "10percentdvx", DVXUsers will receive a 10% discount off the price of any of our products.
This is valid only until the end of this month ( April). All adapters are currently in stock as I type this so order before we run out again!

Hope that helps.

@Shooter: I had been shooting with the 17-35, and felt it too short for interviews: I can't frame a decent head shot from a decent distance with the 35mm end. SO, I just received a Nikon 17-55mm 2.8 (constant aperture) G lens... WOW! I think it might change your mind about G lenses. (There just isn't an F lens like it.) Consider that it is probably the least expensive in that focal length range and that it might also be one of the best lenses period in that range. The build quality is great. This lens will live on my camera for 80% of the time. Perfect for the cinema verite work I am so often called on to produce.

Try it, tell us what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Aloha,

Jeff

Hi Jeff

I have both the 17-35 and the 28-70 Nikkors ( manual apertures) so have the bases covered as regards focal length and quality optics. ( see my signature)

It was the 28-70 that made me really think that I needed a better engineered adapter. This lens is seriously "heavy" and in fact I will only use it with a len support as well. I think that the fact that these lenses are mounted on an adapter and the additional leverage involved on the Af100 M4/3 mount needs to be factored in as well when choosing an adapter.

Looking forward very much to receiving the Adaptimax adapter. Also..great to see the manufacturer ( Steve) commenting in this thread. Adaptimax responsiveness and service has been exceptional so far.

Hey Shooter, what are you using for a lens support for the Nikkor 28-70?

I was unsure whether to use a support or not; with my Voigtlander adapter + the lens, the weight is almost exactly the recommended limit for lens weight for the AF100, but not really over (maybe by an ounce).

I wonder if the recommended limit has some contingency factored in, or if I risk damaging the mount by using a combined weight at the limit of the recommendation.

I definitely don't want to use one of those metal screw-based supports I've seen some people use (that don't feed into a hole of any sort) - and they end up scratching up the bottom of their expensive lens.

Also, I've been wondering if a supported matte box would provide the needed support.

Steve.

I am using a Red Rock Lens support. It has a small padded "arc" on an adjustable column.

Thing is that the lens attached to the adapter is more than just the weight in my opinion. The weight of the lens is factored upwards a bit by the extension of the adapter. (Leverage on the mount).

The mount on an AF100 is certainly not "confidence building" as regards its lightweight construct inside a very light composite body.

You cant really use a mattebox as support because the lens should not be touching it at any point.

Hey Steve - I ordered the adapter on Friday and never received any type of tracking or confirmation even though the money was debited from my credit card the same time as the purchase. Can you please advise?

Thanks in advance.

It's a holiday weekend here in the UK and the offices are closed from Thursday afternoon until tomorrow morning. I have just checked and there's one to Georgia 31052, Mn 55419 and Ca 92660 that were ordered on Friday to go out to the USA tomorrow. Is one of those yours?

Sorry just bad timing with holidays.

Thanks
Steve

Ah, yea that Georgia one is me but it's supposed to be 30152. Okay cool no worries, yea I've been waiting a week to even order other stuff from B&H due to the holidays so what's a coupla more days :)

thanks for the reply.

A number of reasons:

I have used apertures on lenses as a D.P for 35 years plus . I factor f-stops, shutter angles and fps instinctively for all exposure and DOF calculations etc.

I like to know what the aperture actually is.

I do not like the idea of an adaptor mechanically setting an unknown aperture.

My meters ( incident, reflected and spot ) display f- stops

I have never used a professional cine lens that did not have an aperture ring.

I prefer the convenience and speed of controlling exposure from the aperture.

I will not use ISO to set an exposure in the general course of things.

I prefer to own simple mechanical well engineered lenses that I know will go the distance. I believe many electronic lenses with firmware will become un useable due to lack of support eventually ( unlike classic lenses).

Electronic lenses are very expensive to repair.

etc...

Shooter,
do you prefer De-clicked aperture lenses or do you prefer the lens to remain the way they are (referring to your set of Nikkors)?

Just out of my own curiosity.

Thanks

I never got any shipping information or confirmation either after purchasing last week and I'm in the states, nothing in my spam folder either....is it normally a one/two week turnaround?

Please email sales at adaptimax.com with your name and date of purchase and I will email you information directly. Not something for a forum. All adapters ordered have been dispatched.

Best regards
Steve

I have done something really, really stooopid. ( kicking myself with both feet)

Arrived this morning from halfway around the world and....seems I ordered a Nikkor to 1/3 Adaptimax adapter instead of 4/3

Guess I will be contacting them and arranging an excxhange.

Never even heard of 1/3rd !
