Best Nikkor adapter for Manual Nikkors

Has a superior adapter (in the engineering and quality sense) been acknowledged as "the best" for ALL MANUAL Nikkor lenses?

Plenty of adapters around but most appear to be too cheap to qualify as excellence in engineering.

I am looking for a billet / cng type of product that is finely engineered to camera type tolerances.

+1 I want to find it too... I am tired of play, sloppy tolerances, and not being able to hit infinity. I have a generic (kipon) one I got as it was the only one not sold out when I bought my camera and I have been really disappointed with it (as I figured I would be). Been meaning to replace it since I got it, and I really want to find the 'perfect' nikon adapter. Also, if anyone ever offered a proper nikon mount conversion for the AF100, I would be really interested in it.

Anyway, I am looking really closely at the adaptimax as I like what I see and read about it... I have not gotten to use it in person yet though. Pretty much planning on buying it, just waiting to work it into a budget really.

I will never throw a lens on my AF102 that does not have an aperture ring.

BTW: Just placed an order for the manual adaptimax for Nikkors. Only one way to find out I guess.

Let us know how it works. My metabones has developed a little bit of play.

I use to feel the same way, but I broke that because of the tokina, which I love, and I might be given a 24 f/1.4 for an upcoming shoot, so even more glad to have it... so even if you dont use it, I would consider it important to have just incase you ever need to slap a G lens on in the future. It is apparently the same adapter with a screw added.

Anyway, enjoy it and let us know how you like it.

Very happy with my Voightlander adapter. No play at either connection, "stair stepped" internals to prevent reflections, solidly built. I wish I could say the same for my Panasonic m43 adapter for my Oly 14-35. Solid at the lens but loose at the camera connection.

The Kipon I had was a piece of c&@p! So much slop and play it was unusable. Bought for the same reason—*I had to have something to use when I first received my AF100. I now have a Novoflex. Fantastic! Use it with a G lens with no ring or use an ancient Nikkor F lens and its own aperture ring... you decide!

@Shooter: I had been shooting with the 17-35, and felt it too short for interviews: I can't frame a decent head shot from a decent distance with the 35mm end. SO, I just received a Nikon 17-55mm 2.8 (constant aperture) G lens... WOW! I think it might change your mind about G lenses. (There just isn't an F lens like it.) Consider that it is probably the least expensive in that focal length range and that it might also be one of the best lenses period in that range. The build quality is great. This lens will live on my camera for 80% of the time. Perfect for the cinema verite work I am so often called on to produce.

Try it, tell us what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Aloha,

Jeff

I have the Nikon 17-55mm 2.8 too. I agree, it is one of the best zoom lens in that range. Also one of the best for run and gun shoot. It is from wide to mid close-up. Cons side is can't tell the F-stop...what I did for that, I made a F-stop ring with gaff tape.
MTF adapter for Nikon, super solid build $300
Novoflex adapter for Contax, solid build $200
Fotodiox adapter for Pentax, it is really shitty, can't focus infinity, lose mounting connection..$30

It seems like the more expensive adapter is, the better build it is. Adaptimax should be solid build too.
Still hoping for a birger nikon adapter......

This Nikon lens sounds interesting, but I know nothing about it. Could you give a link to a retailer for me.
How do you control the iris ?
Thanks

I've been very pleased with the Novoflex but at $292 it's a bit pricey.

I had such a bad experience with a cheap one (Fotodiox) that I decided to skip all the BS they were talking about in the GH2 thread and get something well made.

I have no complaints about the Novoflex, but it is the only adapter I have used. I works with all of my Nikon lenses from G to F.

Just wait a few months. ALL these adapters are based on spring tension so eventually they all develop slop with time. All these are new so no issues yet.
Maybe something that uses Nikon original parts would last longer- but my D70 has loosened up quite a bit as well.......

I've been using the Voightlander for 3 months now with no problems at all.

I plan on buying the Adaptimax adapter for G series lenses and when I want very fine control of the aperture.

I expect the Adaptimax aperture control will also work with regular Nikon lenses when they are stopped down all the way.
