Hi All,

I've had the Odyssey for a little while now and am wondering what you all use to mount it to your rig? Currently I'm switching between a cold shoe mount and 15mm rod mount. Both of which i'm not 100% happy with.
Looking for something sturdy where I don't have to consistantly tighten the thread on the back of the 7Q+.

Thanks in Advance

there is no standard recommendation. It depends on your other set up and what you do with the 7Q+. Is it your main viewer/monitor or just a recorder? with our without XDCA? Static from sticks or handheld? I think we had a lot of discussions already..

Understood, its not my main monitor, but I do rely on it a bit for checking exposure and luts. Use varies from Tripod to gimbal, without xdca.

yeah I'm in a similar boat despite the many options available. I bought a very sturdy Cinearm but its still not 100% reliable and so dang annoying to screw in for quick setups. The wooden camera seems to be best solution but haven't justified the price quite yet.

understood - but you should figure out where you want to mount it? top, rear, front, back, handle, side view...
In general I don't like Noga arms very much. I you want a flexible mount I prefer UCLS

I really is a matter of how you would ideally like to use the Odyssey. Where would you like to place it, or even move it from/to. They we can suggest ways of getting it there.

I too am not a fan of Noga-type arms for such solutions. When you want something completely flexible because you're always going to be changing it then these universal arms make a lot of sense, but in reality there are likely only a couple of positions you really want to place the monitor/recorder. So you want a solution that is quick and rock solid for only those. I liken it to the locking screws on most front rod accessories, or even on tripod legs, light stands and stand mounts. They just use threaded bolts or knobs that you tighten until it reaches the spot yu want, but that's just cheap & lazy design work for a universal solution. If something it tightening to a rod that is always going to be a set size, then an on/off latch mechanism is stronger, more precise and will last longer. A spring-loaded clutch allows for a bit of give for misused parts, but a clamp is always better than a bolt.

Sorry for the aside -- it's a design sore spot for me. :-)

Haha no worries, thanks Mitch & Clermond! Two most used scenarios for me would be on the rear 15mm rods of VCT plate (rear view) and on the handle bars of M15, I'd like some flexibility there, for adjusting the angle.

I tend to agree with Mitch. While the Cine Arm is not ideal, it's still the best solution when used in combination with another solution and that's a fluid
friction like device made by Xtender (www.xtender.com).
Using the short Cine Arm with the Xtender mount attached, you have full positive locking with the ability of subtle positioning. The company makes a variety of mounting options for various devices including rod or as in my case, the Noga Cine Arm.
I have found the company to be very responsive and easy to work with.
