BEST METHOD for MOUNTING MARSHALL

My Noga arm isn't sturdy enough for Marshal with batt.
Current set up is Zacuto plate / rods / Zacuto mini mount to
Medium Noga to Marshal.

Zacuto Arm looks like the way to go but the arm is 215, and various adaptors you need to use the arm add another 235 (zround and zmicro mount). At 450 just to mount my monitor I have to believe there's a cheaper way.

I've seen old threads ages ago, but trying to find anything on the "search" is a joke.

Who's got some ideas? Or can steer me to old threads?

I'd love to hear the answer to this. I have a similar issue. Mainly, the zacuto stuff is made of unobtainium and cantaffordium.

This kid Smettli has a great method. i will post a link later.

I ended up buying "arm bones" from VF Gadgets. It's a different system than Ultralight, Zacuto or Noga but it looks sturdier. Limited in vertical axis which I'm okay with. I bought VF's heavy duty monitor mount for my BTH 1700 and it is absolutely awesome. Best machined, versatile and light weight mount out there. Worth every penny. So I'm trusting them on armbones. Will have a review in a few.

Here's the link:

I'll be going from Rods, Zacuto mount, Arm Bones, Ball Mount to Marshall.

I've got a great method that involves just an adapter I got from Nebteck that is supposed to float a little arm with the marshall off the hot shoe. That method sucks, but the same adapter can be jerry rigged to provide a very strong support right over the hot shoe that I mount a ball head on. Its sturdy, flexible and centered right over the camera.

However I've been meaning to take a picture of it for months and I haven't gotten around to it. Maybe posting this will kick my butt because you guys will get mad at me. I can't do it for a few days though.
I will find the part numbers though.

The parts are a Nebtek "Double hot shoe adapter" ( doesn't come with the pictured ball mount) and a Manfrotto 482 ball mt.
You stick the adapter into the hot shoe part way and secure the other side through a screw hole on the bracket to another screw hole on the top of the HVX with a hardware store 3/8" bolt and 2 wing nuts. The bracket sits about 1/"2 above and parallel to the HVX handle. Kind of makes a double handle on the HVX that's very sturdy because its secured at 2 ends.

Then you screw off the hot shoe on the bracket to reveal a 3/8" bolt coming up just above where the hot shoe is on the HVX. That's where the Manfrotto ball head goes and the monitor mounts on that.
Probably hard to visualize but its strong and i've been doing it for a year. Easy to change the angle of the Marshall and no stupid arm dangling around. Its heavy to hand hold, but they all are. I just support it with a monopod which I like way more than all of those shoulder mt adapters.

Anyway that's my 2 cents and I'll try to get a photo taken soon.
Let me know if you try this & like it.

The Swit or Varizoom mount sucks ass. The ball held tight but it clamps onto the handle instead of screwing in and kept coming loose.

Just got this for use with my Marshall 7" on my HVX. WAY better than my noga arm. Not the greatest, but having unlockable balls makes things easier. The mount is pretty sturdy with the panny battery.

It's a cheap, but very usable, solution.

Do you know which combination of arms and clamps works for the Panasonic?

Sam, BT-MOUNT looks like Ultralight, yeah?

BT-Mount not specifically listed as for use with HVX (see footnote in link above), and I don't trust the HVX handle will support some monitors/battery for my intended run and gun use, so I am rigging the Ultralight and Nebtek monitor, when they arrive, to one of my Cinevate rail blocks.

If you want to buy the pieces and make your own Ultralight combo, here are the list details sent to me from Rob at Nebtek. I am buying an assortment, enough for two or more rigs. Your combo can be determined once you decide where and how you want to mount/connect the monitor/camera.

Old thread, but as to the original question I got one of these:

http://www.nebtek.com/proddetail.php?prod=IA-Noga_Arm_SUPR

..with the heavier duty arm, which cost a bit more (I forget how much - maybe $20 or so). It works great just like the photo shows, and the best thing is it *doesn't* turn with the tripod head, so you can pan and tilt while maintaining a perfect on-axis view of the monitor image. It's also built like a tank.

Highly recommended.

Yeah, it is an old thread... that's what happens when you use the search engine!

Thanks for posting you solution. I actually have been looking at that Bogen clamp.

Cool.

I should receive my ram mount on saturday, got the 1/4 - 20 and 3/8 ends for more options. At this stage I'm just making up a bracket for my portable DVD player to go into the 3/8 end.

I'll be the first to admit that the Zacuto stuff is expensive.

But the big ZAmerican Arm is ROCK SOLID with a Marshall AND a huge Sony V-mount battery on it.

Try THAT with a Noga!
