Best ISO and setting for club gig.

Hi There,

I decided to use the 5D to film a grand opening of a really dark club. I have a lite panels attachment that I plan to use for extra light, and the lens I'll be using is 35-135mm its the only one I have. Can anyone give me any advice on the best settings to get the best quality and light? Thanks!

Most zooms are too slow to shoot in dark clubs. I shoot clubs between f/1.4 and f/2 1250 ISO. It's best to use as little extra light as possible otherwise you lose the vibe of the room.

The best ISO to use is the one that gets you a good enough shot. That may sound a bit obvious, but there is no one perfect setting for any given situation written down in a book somewhere. You have put turn your camera on and adjust settings until things look right. Like squig we'll generally use fast primes in really dark areas, though we've got away with 2.8 zooms in a pinch with really high ISO. In two places I can remember I've been at f1.4 with ISO 2500. The 35-135 has no chance in those lighting conditions.

So, open your aperture and increase ISO until the picture looks bright enough ;) Slow your shutter speed if you think you can get away with it.

be sure to use the new technicolor cinestyle. it will give you a much better image in lowlight to work with.

You can get a super takumar or smc takumar 50mm f/1.4 for about $100 on ebay, they're both great lenses comparable or better than a lot of newer lenses. I find a 35mm a lot more useful in clubs however.
