Best highlight rolloff for non slog profile a7sii/a7rii/a6500

Lately i have been using cine4 a lot more to get the colors perfect in-cam - however it seems that compared to s-log2, cine4 has brutal highlight rolloff. When it clips its really not good looking(i.e light bulbs, the sun). Is there better profiles or settings i can use to smooth the highlight rolloff?

Have you checked that it is not a super-whites problem?

I know with the FS700 there are two different cine profiles - and each one has a 100% whites version and a 109% whites version. Using the super-whites version Premiere will blow out anything exposed over 100%, so you need to recover the highlights using the "Fast Color Corrector" effect. If you use Premiere, maybe try applying the Fast Color Corrector and lowering the output level from 255 to 235.

Cine2 is a 100% profile, cine 1-3-4 are 109. However i have not experimented heavily with highlight recovery techniques. Will have to test it and come back

It's nothing fancy: just open the waveform and see if there's anything up there, or bring output levels down, or add a curve that does that, and see if you get extra info on the highlights.
In any case, those "cine" profiles have lots of headroom in the shadows, but not much on the highlights.

It depends on what software you're using, but you'll need to be careful what effects you use to do this. In Premiere, Fast Color Corrector will recover the hidden highlights, whereas Curves or Levels will not, at least up to CC2015. Fast Color Corrector also has the benefit of using exact values, so you can bring back all the data that is there without changing the overall contrast of the image.

In devinchi resolve you can bring it back by setting the Data levels by selecting the clips in the media viewer and right clicking.
