Best Handheld/ Steadycam Rig For HVX and 35mm adaptor

Hi Guys just wondering if anybody has any experience using the HVX handheld with a 35mm adaptor and Marshall monitor. I know it may seem a handful but I am working on a project to be shot next Summer and am looking at all my options in advance. The script involves a lot of movement and needs the urgency and immediacy offered by a Steadycam. Any suggestions?

Check out the Zacuto website. They have a nice baseplate + rod support system that helps going handheld with heavy decked out rigs. This would probably be the best way to go if you go handheld and need to use adapter + lens.

If you are talking steadicam, check out the recent thread by Hakkon who used the M2 on a steadicam.

Thanks Opcode, have seen the zacuto rig, I was just wondering how much vibrations you would get having it shoulder mounted as opposed to having a harness system. The camera will be moving quiet a bit and following the lead character as he is running, the camera will need to be able to move in all directions, low to high etc.

No way can you handhold all that stuff, just far too heavy.

Either go on the shoulder like a DVrig.

Or you will need a full rig, Steadicam Flyer beeing the best choice.

However that will only give you 30" of boom range duing any one shot. - you can have those 30" be anywhere between just below ground level to about 8" in the air, but it's only 30" at a time. - That beeing said, you can use apple boxes etc to gain some altitute for lower shots.
There are 2 decives that allow you more boom range. One is the Alien Revolution, but at 60grand - plus teh Rig it goes on, it's probably not an option.
There is a device called "buddycam" that has been made for the bigger rigs, I'm not sure if one is available for the Flyer, but it's something worth looking into if you *must* have that bigger boom range.

Actually I just did a 4-day shoot (all hand-held) for an AMD/Microsoft spot using the HVX, M2 and 7" Marshall HD monitor. And yes it is heavy as hell, and I had an AC by my side that would take it from me between takes...but it worked. And by "worked", I mean it worked for me and my style of shooting. If you're wanting long, slow, steady, silky-smooth shots from that rig, it may be a little difficult to have that much control.
