Best GH1 short film

Hi guys,

I was wondering what you think is the best short film shot on the GH1(3) or even the GH2.

I'm a very story-oriented filmmaker and I don't think the camera is that important as long as the quality and look are acceptable but just out of curiosity and because I'm a GH13 owner,

I'd really like to know what YOU think is the best GH1 NARRATIVE FICTION short on the internet?

I'm really looking forward to your links.

Yeah what's the deal? I know of some awesome *test* videos made with the GH1. Potentially a great camera - haha!

Seriously though, what about that lovely looking feature made on the GH1 with those Contax G Zeiss lenses? That looked like it might be good.

Have you looked in the footage forum branch of this GH camera section?

FILMS?! We're too busy arguing over the technical aspects of our cameras to bother with films.

Candy Apple Red by Todd Norris. I don't think it's available online because I think it's doing festivals, etc.

Here's the trailer:

What bumkicho is saying here is if you're looking for good narrative stuff, look at your own work! haha

I did my BetrayalFest film with my GH1 pre-hack... you can check out the cut I did for that here: http://www.vimeo.com/12603903 password: lepera

I've been slowly editing the "festival cut" and I re-shot the scene with "The Heavy"... I'm not saying it's one of the best online by any means, just that it exists, haha.

trailer for the 1st film I did with the hacked gh1.

trailer for the 1st film I did with the hacked gh1.

just a quick trailer....

THAT, I think is the biggest problem of this whole technical revolution. We are so overwhelmed by different options and products that we spend all our time trying to find the perfect gear instead of going out and making films. I think the "Hitler is not happy with the new 7D/T2i/etc." series by Philip Bloom is spot on. The Fuhrer delays his film by six months waiting to get the perfect camera which obviously doesn't exist and I won't even start about those guys waiting for the legend that is Scarlet.

I was a victim of this myself. I had finally gotten my GH1 after saving and not being able to decide on what camera to get for over a year and a half, I made ONE film which I'm not even really proud of and that was it. I spent the next year reading forums regretting my GH1 purchase when the 7D lowered its price and when the T2i came out. It wasn't that I stopped being in to filmmaking but I just stopped filmMAKING. Before I had gotten my GH1 I was using a crappy handycam which belonged to my mum BUT I couldn't get enough of making videos and made one at least every month or so.

When I shot Bicycle after a year of just passively learning about films I wasn't really excited about it and thought "let's just get this done" but when I started shooting and directing and especially editing I remembered why I got that camera in the first place and what you can create in just a few days of mostly improvised shooting. Believe it or not this was actually my first non-action film and I just started falling in love with film all over again on a whole different level.

I believe I'm getting really off topic but I'm trying to point out that WRITING A STORY and going out to shoot teaches something no film school can do and I suggest everyone should try this every now and then (even if you're a event videographer or whatever).

Haha! Thanks I guess!

Well, thanks for the links. I've seen Todd's Candy Apple and really enjoyed it. He put it briefly online for his contacts to see.

I liked the other films especially I OR ME. Sean's film was also very enjoyable.
I hope I can get to see HILLS GREEN somewhere (probably not), looks promising but the thing I don't like about these trailers is that I have no idea about the story whatsoever making it just another montage, great visuals though. Old cinema glass has a very special look I have never seen from still lenses. An overused term but yeah, that trailer was very film-like.]

I look a lot around on Vimeo (not specifically for GH1 videos) but sometimes there are these great films that are hard to find and should have gotten a lot more views.

I'd love to discover some other stuff and sure I'm not the only one so please keep the links coming!

Yep, every camera is good enough for vimeo and you can't tell the difference if the skill is there.

Not only Vimeo, I've seen some SD footage look really good on big cinema screens, nowhere near film of course but I've heard a lot of pros saying DSLR stuff if well shot looks even better than on some monitors when on a big screen, it seems the projection smoothes out a lot of the compression artifacts.

i find it weird that there's hardly 10 feature films done with GH13..(+GH2)
i, for one, plan to make one (i should have finished it by now if i was more serious).
so i'm sure there are tons of other directors or would be directors
eager to squeeze out their stuff. this is the ultimate tool to make it for minimum budget.
i'm not even sure there are so many canon dslr features out there.

so- only 10 films? (even less. haven't counted)
i'm talking about the whole world here. maybe it's a smaller niche than i thought.
