Best Frame/Cinema mode?

I was wondering which camera available now, has the most appealing (to the eye) frame mode (faux 30p). I was looking for something not to expensive just to shoot little projects and rehearsals that doesn't have that outright video look.

Basically, which camera has the smoothest motion and color accuracy?

I'm leaning towards the Panasonic PV-GS400, but if someone knows better I would definitely like to shop around.

Thanks for the help moonman. Well, really since I'm so stupid why don't you tell me what are people going to tell me?

Whats your budget?
"not to expensive just to shoot little projects and rehearsals that doesn't have that outright video look."

DVX would be the cheapest you could get w/ out sacrificing the 24fps. I think. Someone correct me on this.

I think that the DVC-30 looks great and has most of the basic capabilities of the DVX, however the lesser gs400 has true 16:9 but does suffer in low light. I really like my dvc30, I think it is one of the most underated cams out there, and beats the Gl2 hands down in every dept. besides the 16x zoom. The DVC30 can be found on ebay for as little as $1450 used and $1550 new if you look long enough. I can't say good enough things about this little cam, it is a cam that can pack on the punch as is very versatile well worth every penny. I am surprised that people don't don't mention this camcorder more often, it is a pretty sweet little thing and I use it more than my DVX lately... but for home videos. It makes a great b-roll and I really can't tell the difference between it and the DVX in 60i mode most of the time.

Thanks, it's nice to get a real answer. I was looking at that cam also. Is the frame mode the same in the GS400 as it is in the DVC30?

Here... I'll throw in a nickel of advice and try to save you a hefty sum. Go out and get the cheapest 3CCD camera you can find (GS120 for about $400). Then post a WTB request in he market place and drop the change on Magic Bullet. Import your footage into your NLE and apply Magic Bullet. Go to bed while it renders, and then burn the final project out to a DVD. There you go. I saved your maybe $1000.

I personally would not but the DVC30 for what you are doing because it is more camera then you need and when you want a camera like that you are going to want the added benefits of the DVX.

Save the $, unless it grows on trees.

I have looked at the frame mode on some cameras and so far the Panasonic is the most appealing. Magic Bullet, is decent to get a 24p/30p cadence. I have Magic Bullet I know it's capabilities. I would have to do more tweaking to get the saturation, gamma and black crunch that I am seeing from these cameras. Don't assume I'm some sort of novice because I'm not spending thousands of dollars on some pro style camera. The degradation Magic Bullet can introduce into a DV stream is very noticeable the more tweaking you do. But hey, you're the expert right?

But your answer really doesn't answer the question I posted, so I'll simply post it again so that you may read it all the way through and not be so flippant next time.

Here it goes:

I was wondering which camera available now, has the most appealing (to the eye) frame mode (faux 30p)?

Let me worry about my money and, in the future, let's both save some bandwidth for real answers.

The GL1 and XL1 have a good "Frame Mode". I have used both a bunch for short films. The GL1 is pretty durable too, and cheap on the internet; 1000$ or less.

Thanks bikefilms I may look into that, I forgot about the GL1

If your not worried about money then why not buy a DVX?

Who said I was worried, what I said was let me worry about my money. If I have worries I'll deal with them. Answer the question or don't it's just that simple fellas.

The title of my thread sure wasn't "What is the most completely biased answer I can get/all trolls welcome"

Tibby,

Chill out man! The DVX has real 30p, dvc30 does a good job, gs400 still a fine job and you can also pic a gl1, gl2, both a little soft imo and the old opturas do progressive if I am not mistaken. Really the best bet is to check yourself and decide what you like, I already suggested the DVC30 but you seem to have a little steam to let off for some reason. I cannot tell you what is best, nor can anyone and as far as I know all frame modes are the same at the expense of half the vertical resolution, although perhaps panasonic can do some kind of algorithym and only reduce 30%, in any case they are all implemented in the same fashion so the cadence will be the same. Differences would be in the DSP optics and CCD so check them out.

The DVC30 is the best in low light and it does have a limited Cinegamma, so it looks pretty good. That is my suggestion so take it or leave it, but I cannot tell you what you like.

Just to let you know what I have experienced on this board, when you ask mundane subjective questions you can get some limited short answers.

Sorry Chistopher I was a little steamed at the guy who told me to get Magic Bullet, venting I suppose. I apologize
