I own a hvx200 and hpx170 and i'm looking for the widest possible fisheye for either camera, so probably .3x. I know about the Extreme, but was wondering if there was any cheaper ones, or cheaper place to get one. Using it to film skateboarding.
The 16x9 EXII .45 is suprisingly wide on the camera, and 1/6th the price of the extreme by century, its the best you can get other then the extreme obviously. plus there customer service is great if you have any problems.
I've also used centurys extreme and their .55, raynox and the opteka, the only one i havent is the cavision .3. For low end models the opteka and raynox only work well if you have a perfect day, nice and sunny. and if you wanna save a few bucks the cavision is only a bit cheaper then the 16x9, and based on some videos ive seen its not as clear around the edges of the frame like the 16x9.
To touch on the different thread size, the 16x9 fisheye has a neutral 90mm thread, so you can swap the mount you get with other bayonets and thread sizes (different bayonets cost about $130, another thread mount is $35, canadian prices so probably even cheaper if your in the US)
so you could potentially buy the 16x9 with the hvx bayonet, and then buy the hpx bayo or the right thread size (or vice-versa)
not something you can do with any of the other fisheyes, without stepping rings
Definitely use the HPX for all of your fisheye shots it has a wider stock lens. +1 on the 16x9 .45
I keep both the century extreme and the 16x9 lens on hand when shooting. Here is a part from a snowboard video shot mostly with HPX and the fisheyes used are the extreme and 16x9. AMMO - Hobush Full Part
I have also shot quite a bit of skateboarding with that 16x9 lens and like it a lot. Nothing is going to beat the extreme but the 16x9 the next best thing you can get right now for a great price.
correct, the 16x9 will not give you any vignette and will be wide enough but cover the full 16x9 aspect ratio vs the Opteka will give you a lot more vignette and a fishbowl look but it is a bit wider.
