best EVF

I'm trying to build an efficient ENG AF100 rig and I have been checking out EVF's. Any opinions on which is best? Has anyone used the new Cineroid?

+1 for the DP4. I recent had an opportunity to work with one. Very crisp and bright image. Maybe a little too bright, but I'm sure that can be dialed to your liking. Its very nice as a monitor as well. It was a very close match to my 17" Flanders Scientific. It is kinda big, so going handheld might be a little tricky. Maybe some other DP4 users can comment on that.

The DP4 is sweet, but I preferred the Zacuto Z-EVF because of it's smaller size. The DP4 just felt huge with the FS-100.

smallHD recommends using a ND filter in the eyepiece to help knock down brightness when using the EVF outdoors if you are flipping it open a lot.

I've recently got the Dp4 after owning the Cineroid. Cineroid: Pros - light and easy to use, I like the peaking and focus assist on it, though it uses the same system as the AF101 so nothing different. Cons - a bit plasticky, menu system is pretty poor but worst of all the brightness is really low, no good at all for checking exposure. It burnt out on a shoot in Idaho recently and to be honest I was a bit relieved to have buy something else DP4: Pros - very well built, I like the eyepiece (though many don't), easy menus, superbly sharp, bright screen, size means you don't need an additional monitor for director very often. Cons - I'm not a fan of the focus assist (everything goes dark and focus shows up white) - I'd much rather have red edging than this system. Very heavy so you'll need a good mounting arm, false colour is also annoying for me, I'd much rather have zebras which don't seem to be an option.

If RED's EVF worked with the AF100 I'd be all over it.

Mitch Gross of Abel Cine Tech stated a professional monitoring system is coming soon, but didn't know exactly when, or give further details. I'm hoping it's a high definition EVF.

In the meantime I use Zacuto's EVF. I'd consider the DP4, but not until they release an eyecup cap to reduce the risk of burning the LCD with Sunlight. Zacuto's also has 16x9 mask that further minimizes this risk.

Long ago, I bookmarked this preview of an EVF that the folks at Redrock Micro were working on, their microEVF:

Joined their mailing list, too, but have not received a single piece of mail yet. I like the form factor of this thing; it looks to be exactly what I want (and I'm saying that, of course, without having seen it in person nor read a single review). Anyone know what's up with this?

Zacuto and SmallHD will have version two before Red Rock Micro gets to market. One word. Matte Box. Ok that was two words. Don't hold your breath. If you need a EVF get one that exists now.

I purchased the SmallHD DP4 EVF and its nice. Had a few dead pixels so I'm getting a new one sent to me. Great service from SmallHD. I'm concerned with this burning lcd issue outside. I hope SmallHD can remedy this some how because having to flip it up every time you don't have your eye on the viewfinder is kind of a PITA.
