best dv deck

I am looking for a dv deck that will allow me to playback to a VHS with timecode. I looked at the DSR 11 and it will not go to Vhs with timecode. How do people edit without timecode logs. Thanks.
The other options are another camera or the Sony GVD 1000.

Re: best dv deck

Most of the time, pro VTR's have a "monitor out" port which is different from the "video out" port. The difference between being that the video out is just the video as read off the tape head, the monitor out is intended to be used for a video monitor attached to that specific machine...and as such, it will have all the on-screen information and menus that allow you to access the features of the VTR. Typically, the machine will also display the timecode on that monitor out as well.

So if you're trying to make a cheap window burn, connect your VHS to the monitor out and turn on the display on your player. This also works with camcorders...connect to the video out and just turn on the monitor display and that will be recorded on the VHS.

THe DSR 11 doesn't seem to have any status window, so I'd be confident that it has on screen menus through the monitor out port.
