Best "DSLR" to use as a B-Camera to match a Sony FS100??

Some Broll for a larger project - super rough cut.

Sound is off the NEX5 !

Pleased with the profile on the FS100 - can take a beating.

Wide shots are 5n (apart from 2 50p flip shots which are 18mm/FS100)

Yes.

A poorly researched venture into video production, I hadn't realised how little people value video. Back to freelance motion graphics for clients who do value the content.

I found it impossible to get my message into the thick skulls of clients that high end short promos skillfully produced are better for their brand than long cheap clichéd corporate crud that no one watches. So it was a pretty decision to make at the end of the day.

Yes, i would not work on that basis, it's a tough market, i've been lucky to avoid it. We bought ours for a particular production where we're the producers and it makes lots of sense financially and also creatively. Once that's done i'll sell the 100 and keep the 700 (i say that but seeing as i'm a bit of a hoarder it will probably stay)

Having said that i know a few prod companies that have managed to keep quality up for corporates but they're all soho based and therefore there's already the expectation. Outside of London quality is more a passion of the creatives than the clients.

If you're looking for a stills/movie hybrid it would be interesting to see the next sony announcements. Some new NEX is rumoured.

cheers

Looking at SMM's NEX5 footage made me think about a hybrid for personal usage. I'm in no rush so can wait until the right camera comes along. I understand the NEXs suffer with heat issues that cause lock ups and crashes.

The best video promo in the history of the internet... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=efd_1346786705

(If only that was knowingly bad it would've been a work of genius.)

For a hobby cam I could not rec the NEX5n more highly.

Small, OK image, big chip many lenses.

Mine has never overheated - I mean who rolls for more than 20s when not filming a conference. The bg music is from a 2 min take on the nex5n

As a pro tool I want 1hour roll, 4 hour batts, best in class focus check, twin XLR, get all that with the FS, and the image is coming along nicely.

You dont get any of that with a DSLR from any brand or the NEX or GH2 and probably dont need it for hobby vids - or features!
