im looking to purchase an affordable one to help me set up shots. Any recommendations?

I know they make one designed for the DVX and various other digital cameras. 16:9 is a must.

But also I noticed that some viewfinder specify 2/3 and 1/3 chip. What does that mean in terms of the viewfinder's accuracy? is this important to consider when choosing one

Have you thought about just using the camera?

This could be problematic when you throw in a mattebox, audio cables, power cables, external monitors, firestore, the fussy DoP who owns the camera that doesn't want buttons bumped or the lens smudged... and don't director's finders just look cool? :)

Cavision makes inexpensive finders, and try the ASC Store online for an idea of what to look for, but you can probably find it cheaper somewhere else like B+H. And you definitely want a finder for 1/3 chips if you're using the HVX with the naked lens. If you're using a 35mm adaptor, er, well... let me know and I'll see if I can track down the site that had a discussion about that.

On a side note, Werner really is the master, isn't he?

Peace,

Oh is there one for the DVX? Which one and where??? :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Any finder that has an option for 1/3" chip cameras. The DVX, HVX, and the majority of prosumer DV and HD cameras are 1/3. Professional video cameras will usually be 2/3. And to confuse you further the Sony EX1/EX3 are 1/2, and I don't even know what the specs are on the Red Scarlet anymore. But you want 1/3 for the DVX.
