Best DAT recorder to use with my Rode NTG-3

Oh, boy, a chance to be pedantic! I think "digital audio recorder" has a wider scope that surely includes DAT. So Richard's original use is OK, but I don't think the response to Petrus is. When someone talks about a DAT, they are indeed, in current usage, talking about a specific type of digital audio recorder. But the other way, when one talks about a digital audio recorder, one rarely pictures a DAT these days.

I must be bored.

We really need a good new acronym cause DAT is so easy, and "digital audio recorder" is a pain. DAR somehow doesn't flow. Pocket recorder might mean anything. Help!

I thought the correct term for the modern recorders was a Flash Recorder.

I vote for Portable Small Audio Capture Device That Uses Solid State Mini-Media Storage Units. Or PSACDTUSSMMSU for short.

I'd like for Doc to upload a sound file of him saying "PSACDTUSSMMSU" just to make certain the rest of us are pronouncing it correctly.

I'll do it phonetically: sak-tuss-M-sue. The d, P and z are silent. Z is double silent, so you don't even see it.

But seriously (;-) I'm going for PAR and PseudoPAR. I don't like "PAR" and am open to anything else people wanna use for that... but I think we'd all benefit from the distinction between a tool designed and well-executed for production audio recording, and something that can "kinda be pressed into service as such"

Or... TDWEAP and STCKBPISATDWEAP?
