Best D7000 Flat Picture Control Yet?

I ran it over my light response and DR test, and I have to say: it could be smoother in the mids-to-highlights transition (there's a slight kink at 70%), but it looks pretty nice indeed.
Flaat is designed for the D800, and doesn't work optimally on the D7000. I'd say this is a much better option for that camera, and probably the best one when you need as much DR as you can get (it delivers around 12 stops, and looking at the curve I'd think there's no way to get even more; no idea about how much of that would be usable).

@Samuel H,

So it looks like your profiles are the only ones out there so far that are specifically optimized for the D800?

Thanks

Maybe. I haven't looked into many alternatives, I don't even have a D800 myself :)
So far Flaat for Nikon has been developed with a few D800 volunteers from around the world.
I'll be borrowing one in july, and then Flaat should get out of its current "beta-2" state

Alvaro Yus' profile brings up even more shadows than Milk, and has a less "milky" appearance. ;) Milk was my fav before, but the Alvaro Yus profile will be my new one, barring any weirdness with it. Gonna test it out shooting some fire poi today. :D

I don't think it will have any "weirdness": it's based on Neutral, and the curve is very simple and delivers a relatively smooth light response

Hey, im wondering where did you download the "Milk" profile? i really do like to have this for D4!

I think it will work, but Nikon changed the in-camera image processing with the D800 and D4, and, just like Flaat (which is designed for these new cameras) is not the best option for older models (like the D7000), I'm not sure these D7000 profiles will be the best option for newer cameras.

Thanks buddy - i'd love to grab "milk" profile however there is one link which is broken atm (http://deltaprim.pl/NIKON.rar) - do you have any alternative link?

in the zip file there are two files, which one should be used? thanks

Hey,

In those two files you notice:

PICCON01.NCP = 01 Milk
PICCON02.NCP = 02 ultralight

If you want to use "Milk" profile - use this file "PICCON01.NCP"

^ indeed, it works on the D5200 just as it did on the D800 and D600, so, although I haven't tested it, I would expect it to be perfect for the D7100 too
