So I'm shooting a video at the last minute with the A7s and Ive never used it before. After a bit of research, I've decided to avoid Slog and turn off the picture profiles and go with one of the creative styles like Autumn leaves or neutral. Just wanted to see if other people have experience with these profiles and which one they like most. I'm looking mostly at Autumn Leaves and Neutral but I can't decide which would be best. I'm looking to good skin tones and max dynamic range. Don't have time to test cause I shoot tomorrow morning so I need to pick one and just stick with it.

Neutral with saturation set at -2, contrast -2, sharpness -1 is nice and flat for grading to start with.

I'm leaning towards neutral but some of the best stuff I've seen is with autumn leaves so I'm torn. I've also seen some people talk about using dynamic range optimization (DRO) at level 4 with the creative styles. Anyone know anything about this?

DRO raises the darks while keeping blacks anchored. Lvl 4 is a bit too much. Most styles seem to flatten their curve in the darks-to-mids region at Lvl 3. Lvl 4 actually curves the darks upwards which is hardly desirable as a general purpose approach.

Lvl 3 seems ok for grading. If you are using the footage as is, set it to whatever looks good to you. "Off" is usually fine.
You should also check how the Contrast setting interacts with DRO since both tweak the curve.

Ok I've narrowed it down to autum leaves, standard or neutral. I may just go with standard to be safe, I've read the neutral can be a tad too milky. I'll set DRO at 3 but I'm still undecided about the contrast, saturation and sharpness values. Most seem to drop sharpness to -3 but there are a bunch of different values for contrast and saturation.

DRO level 4 is definitely too much. My max value would be 2. Check this before you push that parameter too high.
