Best Compression Settings for Vimeo HD - my video looks a bit choppy

What are your best settings (using either Compressor or MPEG Streamclip) to convert Prores file to vimeo-friendly .mov/.mp4?

I've got a 4 minute video that I shot (handheld) with lpowell's fast action patch. Shot at 720p30, conformed to 24p in cinema tools. Prores clips then dropped onto a 720p timeline. Twixtor speed change applied to a few clips (80=90% speed).

I exported from FCP using quicktime - exported as Prores 422HQ self-contained movie. Then imported into compressor using the standard vimeo HD settings I found online:

-video encoder (Quicktime .mov)
-codec (.h264)
-framerate same as source (24 I presume)
-keyframes (auto)
-1280x720
-frame controls (off)
-data rate (restrict to 13000 kbits/sec)

Clips in the original Prores file looks good. However, in the compressed-for-vimeo file, clips that were shot while I was moving the camera look choppy. Is this normal?

Thanks for all input!

Maybe your computer is having trouble playing back the H.264 file? Those settings look pretty good. Hows it look on vimeo...do you have a link?

The file actually looks better uploaded and played on Vimeo than played natively on Quicktime. Weird.

I'll post the link later today in the footy/grabs.

Thanks for the reply Ben. You tha man!

I don't understand why these sites (youtube, vimeo, etc.), don't give you the option to just upload an already-compressed clip and just provide the hdd space.

They'll just set some requirements for max size and/or bitrate and let you do the encoding if you want.

That way they will save some processing capacity and give you the opportunity to upload very good encodes, compared to what their engine does.
